What's in your pack

DiSc0Rd

5 year old buck +
Well the season is over so it's time to do pack clean up. First picture is what I had left in mine the second is what my son had in his. Bonus points if you found a little Debbie you forgot about.

What a great idea of a thread!

I have some of that. I leave my scent killer at camp or on the wheeler at my parking area. And during my archery season we don't have the bugs so I don't need the Thermacell.

We're a colder climate so I have a few different things plus some safety things along with a few others:

Drag rope.
Strap for a tree step - comes in handy for various things.
A "space blanket" for emergency
A fire starter and a lighter.
Some marking tape.
Extra gloves
Spare hand warmer
Extra 1/4" rope
Reflective twist ties
Ratcheting pruners (I use these ALL THE TIME - cleaning my trails while walking, lanes, etc.)

Bow hanger (I'm a stand hunter)
A screw in tree step (can be used as a backup bow hanger or a step).
A couple of rags
Small pack of kleenex (doubles as TP)
A ziplock with some disinfectant wipes to clean my hands if I get the chance to do some gutting

I added a small blanket this year, worked great.
latex gloves
lighter
calls
drag rope
butt out
knfe
food
water
hook to hang pack
scents
bullets
extra hat, gloves
need to add head lamp

Chummer - I'll never use or watch someone use a butt out again. LOL!

Early season i use a fanny pack w/:
Binos
Range Finder
Wind Checker
Gutting Gloves
Big screw in tree step
small 3 prong hanger
articulating arm for my bow
strap to connect me to the tree
rattle bag
grunt call
Flash light
Pull up Paracord rope

Rut hunting/longer sits I switch to a badlands superday pack:
Same as above
Wipes
First Aid kit
snacks/granola bars/sammich
Water bottle
Sometimes an external battery for phone charging on an all day sit
Gloves and clothing accessories either in the pack or buckled onto it. I can walk into the stand in a sweatshirt and not break a sweat, then put something thicker on when at the tree.

Just picked up the kids from school and gave them the last pack of crackers and mini butter finger from my pack.

Bino's
Rangefinder
Screw in step
Bow holder
grunt tube
rattle bag
the can - no idea why I still carry this. never even had a deer look in my direction, let alone come in.
head lamp
Good flash light for blood trailing
TP
spare release
drag rope
knife
marking tape
hand warmers
various clothing dependent on forecast.

I think it is the single greatest invention under $10 ever. It is a bit disturbing.

So far only bonus points for @roymunson and @PatinPA for having snacks. 60% of the hunt is finding just the right junk food to keep your sharp, or put you in a sugar coma. Tomato potato

first time I showed my son one in use I preempted it with you know that gay boy in your school....

I know that wrong but....

And my son left a ham sandwich in his pack last year. Found it this year.:emoji_scream:

I once ate my lunch and roughly 4 pounds of my kids halloween candy by 9 am, on an all day hunt.

No matter how many snacks and sandwiches I bring they are gone by 9am

Remembering back around the year 1970, we would head out to hunt about a half hour before fist light, still hunt all day and return just after dark. There were over thirty of us in camp and one guy, Rudy carried a pack. That pack was the curiosity of the camp all week. WE were amazed that Rudy carried that pack every day and all day which was full of every hunting gadget imaginable. The rest of us, Pack-less hunters put our shells and jack knife in our pocket and our one sandwich tucked under our outside wool shirt. Compasses were mostly pin on types. Fast forward to 2021 and many of us not only carry packs but the packs are much larger now and even have a pocket for each gadget. It makes we wonder; Were we wrong then not to carry a pack full of "essentials "or are we wrong now that we do carry one?

it was probably the one he had in his pack from the butt-out experience. LOL!

My dad and I go to hunt in WV every year with a bunch of guys. They always joke about years ago my dad once showed up with all of his clothes for the week in a brown paper grocery bag. Now we go with fully packed trucks pulling trailers with ATV's. HaHa.

I am in the no pack camp, if I can't fit it my pockets I dont need it.

Edit: should add this is for eastern whitetails, anytime I head west I end up with a pack some sort for carry out.

I've been known to carry some of the finest luggage that Hefty ever made.

Ya used to always keep hunting clothes in a Hefty bag. Now upgraded to Rubbermaid. Got tired of tearing holes in the bags when moving them around.

I try not to forget cough drops and tums.

The butt out is the best hunting tool since the rifle. Just saying...
