What bullets do you use?

I've been using ELD-X in my. 308 this year, and they have been deadly on deer. However, at steep angles the jackets come off, which I don't think is acceptable for moose. These bullets shoot extremely accurately in my rifle, which is why I use them. Even managed a frontal head shot on a hind this year.

I used to use Partitions, but these also don't seem right for moose. And the Accubond just shoot poorly in my rifle.

What do you guys use, and what do you like/dislike about them?

I use the TTSX from Barnes...I love everything about them, dislike would be I wish they made them sooner!

.270 Win - Remington Accu-Tip 130gr (deer)
.270 Win - Federal Premium with 150gr Partition (elk)
.30-06 - Remington Core-lokt 165gr
.243 - Federal Premium with Accubond 95gr
.30-30 - Remington Core-lokt 170gr

Someday maybe I'll pick up reloading. I may have to re-think all the remington ammunition based on their total bankruptcy. For now, I've got a decent pile that'll last a long time if I don't burn it all up shooting for fun.

I keep going back to the 150 gr Remington Core-Lokt in my 7mm Rem Mag Remington 700.

.270 150gr Partition
30-06 180gr Power point Core lokt sp
.35 Rem 200gr core lokt sp

All these are after trying different ammo's and these are what shoot the best out of my guns, lots of times I'll try a new one and end up going back to the tries and true ammo.

The only big game hunting I do is for deer. I used to shoot the factory premium lines of ammo. But for deer and most of my shots being less than 100 yards I tried cheaper ammo. I’ve been very pleased with Federal Fusion. Great results on deer and very accurate out of all of my rifles. Easier on my wallet as well.

As a shotgun and muzzle loader hunter from the east, I'm planning a western hunt in 2022 for mulies. Want to be effective out to 300 yards or a touch more. The Core Lokts are relatively inexpensive bullets compared to some of the others, but how will those perform on mule deer?

Also, I"m pretty sure the 150 grains will be fine for mulies, correct? Shot 175 grain bullets for elk this year, but would trade a flatter shooting cartridge if I could. Thoughts?

If I can even get any fragging ammo.Everywhere is sold out.

I haven't shot anything but whitetails with that setup, but I had zero problems at 300 yards.

Bergers. Flat shooting, very accurate and they drop deer right where they stand. Next in line would be partitions. Both solid bullets.

now I see a link to the reloading question.
I’ve killed mule deer very, very far away with 120 grain nosler ballistic tips.

Nosler partitions for me in my 308 and 7-08. Still have a few Barns X bullets loaded by Speer Nitrex for my 270. Whatever I can get for my .375 Win.

I load for a few different rifles and I’ve been one to experiment and test a lot for each rifle just for fun. Each rifle likes its own brand and bullet. As an overall preference I seem to end up with mostly Nosler Partitions or Hornady interlocks. I’m mostly a deer hunter so any basic bullet will work. While there’s no need for a premium bullet for deer, at least in my opinion, I really like the performance of a Nosler partition in my 7mm magnum and 243. The 6.5 x55 Swede likes a heavy For caliber 140 grain bullet and a Nosler ballistic tip. The 338 Federal uses a 200 grain Hornady interlock. The 45/70 uses a 405 grain Remington soft point at 1885 fps out of a Ruger Number one - but I’ve never shot a deer with it. It’s seems that I get Most shot opportunities On the day I decide to grab the 7mm. My one son also likes the 7mm and the other one always has his hands on the 338 Federal - it’s an obscure caliber but a it’s a heck of a deer killer.

Really liking the Hammer Hunter line. Very forgiving on seating depth, accurate and deadly. Act like a partition on impact, but better. The new Absolute Hammer line looks superb and will be used going forward, but they supposedly do best with some crimping and faster powder than normal.

I love Fusion, but my Weatherby doesn't like it. My savage shoots it well, and it is the most effective bullet I have ever seen.

Barnes bullets are just incredibly on their performance. I wish I could find them readily. I just was told about the shotgun offerings that use Barnes and I have been hunting incredibly high and low for some to no avail.

I use Barnes TTSX, Nosler Accubonds, Ballistic tips and Partitions for my big game rifles. All depends on what the rifle likes. If you are looking for a Moose bullet for your .308 I would be looking at the Barnes.

I used to use the Federal slugs that had the Barnes expander muzzleloading bullet in them when we were a shotgun only area. They were incredible on deer.

I used Barnes in my shotguns in Ohio too.

Nosler partition 115 grain bullet in my 25-06. Loaded up with IMR 4350 49 grains - I’d trust this combo to take down Bull Elk.

Any standard bullet will do the job if the hole is in the right spot. I use 130gr Ballistic tips in .270 Win. Most deer or antelope don't move their feet.

We all agree that any well placed bullet will get it done. But I prefer to live with some margin.

My 450 bushmaster reloads I've got some nosler partition 245 I'll make, the 350 legend will be hornady FTX 165s.

Planning on either 139s or 150s out of my 7 mag for mulies and pronghorn next fall. But I've still got a lot to learn on this. It is a lot of fun figuring things out tho
