Newbie to tree ID.

Wondering what tree this is and if there is any value to wildlife. There are some small oaks around, but I'd like to know what I'm cutting down first before going nuts this winter. Thanks.

There are a few nuts. Some kind of hickory?

Yep, some sort of hickory. A smaller shagbark or pignut hickory?

not that I've seen one growing, but pecan possibly? if not hickory.....

That's a hickory. A pignut hickory if I had to venture a specific guess. Good squirrel tree, but not for much else.

:emoji_smiley: When my son was little I had him on the tractor with me. He said boy that apple tree back there has a lot of apples on it.
I slammed on the brakes and said show me that tree. Yep it was a hickory.

My dad used to have a Brahma Bull that ate those things and cracked them with his teeth. Took us a while to figure out what we were hearing. I love the looks of them, and nothing makes a prettier hardwood floor.
