Tordon RTU Around Wild Apple Trees

I have a few mature wild apple trees in an old pasture. The underbrush consists of a bunch of prickly ash. How much risk do I have if I cut the prickly ash and treat them with tordon rtu? I’ve heard about the “potential” for root grafting between different species in the past, but haven’t heard of any first hand problems with non-treated trees being killed on accident. Thoughts?

If you do some Google searches on Tordon and soil activity I'd guess you wouldn't spray the stuff around your apple trees.

Tordon can kill close by trees just from roots being close and it stays in the dirt a long time.

I won't use tordon again. One non target kill was more than I'm willing to accept.

Agree with comments above. Use straight Glysophate on the cut stumps and you should have no issues. Anything near an apple tree I would hand dig to avoid fumes.

I wouldn't use tordon near any tree I want to keep. I've noticed some deaths on adjacent trees when I used it. It's really good stuff to use if you want to kill off everything in an area and there is no risk of hurting an adjacent keeper tree.
