Tire shops

Opinions. We leave for Galveston thursday which is 12 hours one way. I have been using a locally owned small tire shop since I moved here. Other local folks around dont like them but its him or Quicklane at the ford dealer. 2 weeks ago they fixed my tire pressure sensor in my truck. Its my hunting and fishing truck so when the marred the rim a bit (must not have any padding and be metal on metal on their machine) I was a little frustrated but let it go.

Today with all the moisture I didnt want to roll around in the driveway so ran into Quicklane for an oil change. Told them to look it over good. Brakes were good. Air filter needed changed but I had one cause I knew it needed it. Then the guy comes and gets me to look at my tires. 2mm on one 3 on the other. Now they were on the back, but they had been on the front the week before. My wife had them rotated at the local place and they never said a word to her about bald tires. Needless to say I will be keeping a closer watch, but that really pissed me off. Do I call and rip some ass or chalk it up to experience and go elsewhere? These tires arent even that old but the wife does drive a ton of miles.

Theres a easy test you do with a penny to check tread. But yes it's strange they didn't try to sell you some tires

I’d let them know. Maybe a new guy did the work or an incompetent one. You can say it without ripping them.

My local go to guy is so big now he rarely does the work. He’s running the place. I took a truck in for a wheel bearing. He called and said the brake calipers were so rusted his guy said the bleeders were mushroomed. I said check again, I just put them on myself 6 mounts earlier. Turns out it was the rubber cover that I put back on the bleeder.:emoji_flushed:

I am with Bill....talk to the local guy and just see what is going on. He may have someone that is new or clueless or skipping certain steps. You don't have to get pissy.....but it won't get better or addressed if you don't say something. I prefer to support the local guy if I can....but if things are slipping....you need to let them know that you have noticed. They should have at least mentioned the amount of wear on the tires during the rotation. They may not pitch the sale of them hard, but they should have mentioned it. Constructive criticism/customer feedback should be a welcome thing to the local guy....it is info that can help him at least retain customers.

Glad we put new one. First 100 miles were in the snow. In fact we were the first to come upon a rollover accident this morning with a couple people badly hurt. They were going too fast and didnt make the curve getting onto the Kansas Turnpike. I saw the tire tracks and commented to the wife somebody slid off but we couldnt see the vehicle. 50 yards later two people flagged us down and due to a language barrier were having trouble telling a dispatcher where they were. One had a serious head injury. I will say I used to work from the station the ambo came from and it seemed like forever.
