I’m building a house at my farm. My summer project was to make an 18 foot king post truss for my covered patio. Framing crew installed it recently. I cut down three large white oaks milled the timbers into 8x12 and 8 by 10 timbers and cut mortise and tennon joinery. It’s pegged together with 1 inch diameter riven white oak pegs

Nice touch to your house. I worked at a timber framing company for a few months back in the mid 90s. We did some cool stuff.

timber framing is actually done with green wood. The joints hold it firmly in place while it dries. The timbers are all boxed heart which helps with straightness. It will check but that doesn’t affect strength.
