The silver lining

Well, this COVID-19 really has most things mucked up, but I have found one silver lining. It used to be like pulling teeth to get my wife to take a day or two off and come down to the farm. I was working about 3/4 time so I would head down on a Thursday afternoon after working a little in the morning and then head to the farm. I'd take off Friday and head home Saturday afternoon for church on Sunday.

Well, my wife and I are mostly telecommuting during this crisis and I've cut back my hours. Church is canceled for the foreseeable future. She had come to the farm for our prescribed burn a few weeks ago so I didn't expect she would want to go back for a while. To my pleasant surprise, she asked about going last weekend. We drove down together on Thursday evening. We got the water to my trailer fixed. We had an unexpected issues with the tractor and got that fixed, and we planted a bunch of apple trees. It was great to have a partner. She evidently enjoyed it even though I could not take her to a university basketball game or fancy restaurant dinner as the usual enticements. We found a few tiny places we could eat in and sat in the car to eat takeout for some meals. In spite of that, I asked about this coming weekend and she is considering it!

Both of us telecommuting is giving us an early taste of retirement. Since we both work, it will be an adjustment being with each other a lot more often.

Of course the down side is that we may be working a few more years than expected given the market, but it is a blessing that we have that option. We are trying to find the right balance

Cant really go anywhere so I am working out more.

I live on my land. Still get out and work the land, hunt, trap, fish the pond, and just prowl around. About the only difference I have noted is I go to town once every two weeks instead of once a week. I have been retired for ten years and my finances have taken a beating. Not sure how that is going to work out for me at age 65 without having a lot of years left to recoup my losses.
