Tar River SAYA-505 No Till Drill

wolfpack412

A good 3 year old buck
Just picked up my Tar River Saya 505. I purchased it to run on my B2650. I was a little worried the B wouldn't handle it but the specs on it seemed to work out so I put down the $6k with a backup plan of an old JD 1070 I had access to. I got really lucky as the dealer I got this one from got it from another dealer that apparently doesn't post things online and couldn't get it sold.

I'm going to put some winter rye and daikon radishes in with it to test it out. I'll keep everyone posted.

I'm having trouble finding the no-till category. Is it under grain drills or do you have a link?

When do you think you'll be planting?

I'm hoping to get about an acre done this weekend. I saved an area in my one foodplot to test a full no-till rotation. Right now it's 6" tall clover. I plan to plant Saturday then spray it Sunday. If my brother can get his big field sprayed I might be able to get a big chunk planted for him next week.

I found it. That's a Rural King sold grain drill. Pretty light duty and you need to rototill first to use that one. Just used the no-till today and it did pretty well burying the seeds through the clover. I brought it home to do some adjustments and plan to try again this week on a bigger plot.

I didn't know anything about that brand. There sure isn't any tar rivers on there anymore

Haven't had a chance to look at the clover field I tried to plant through yet but my camera sent back a picture today and the area I had sprayed that I ran the no-till through for kicks and giggles seems to show good germination. Now I'm excited to get back out there this weekend.

So would you buy another SAYA 505? Did your B series Kubota handle it? I have a L2501 and am looking at this drill.

Looking at this picture I think the worst case would be I'd have to spray a couple weeks ahead of time to drill through dead plants. I'm hoping the area I tried to put in through existing clover grows well too. Then I could do true no-till where the soil isn't exposed. My B2650 handles it but there's no doubt it's back there. If the area I was doing wasn't fairly flat I wouldn't feel comfortable with this size tractor picking it up. My front tires come off the ground when I pick it up quickly (need some ballast in the front I know).

This is about a week and a half of growth of winter rye. This was the first planting I did after I got it to where I felt I actually had it figured out. I had to use the small seed tray because the chain driving the large box drive shaft broke. Got it fixed now (dealer assembly issue). Anyway it looks pretty good. I just planted 3 acres of daikon radishes the other day so I'll post those results in a couple weeks. I'll also put out a video of the results and what I've learned.
