Spring 2018 mushroom hunting

Telemark

Anyone finding anything yet?

Southern US and West coast seem to have morels coming up.

I haven't seen anything in Ohio except for last year's oysters and wood ears.

With temps in the 60's the past few days, I'd say we're getting close. Perhaps another couple weeks.

L heard thru the grape vine that one was found in a neighboring county to mine a few days ago. I don't know how reliable that is, but we certainly had the rain to support them......then we had a slight snow dusting sunday night!

I wish, I'm ready.

I'm out of town this coming weekend, but will go morel hunting the weekend of the 14th.

I went out today. Nothing visible. Montgomery County, Ohio.

I saw some photos from Jackson county Indiana on Sunday, but it was April first...

Nothing here yet, but it just finally warmed up!
We usually start finding them when night time temps stay in 50's and the dandelions first start blooming.

Dandelions are going nuts down here. I pulled about 30 yesterday.

It's low 40's here now not sure if it was warm enough long enough to get any popping. Your further south than me it may be worth a walk around to check your good spots for early grays.

The DNR has pushed back seedling delivery by 1-2 weeks. We still have frost in the ground. It is 30 deg F now, winds are 20-30 mph. Snow has been blowing sideways for 36 hours. 75 miles north of us they are getting 6"-18" on snow.

And I am in southern Wisconsin ... Mushrooms? I am hoping for the ice on the sidewalks to thaw ... :emoji_astonished:

People are finding them as far north as Medina. People on the facebook groups are posting finds with dated cash register receipts. I will go out and look after the rain is done. Should be a good time to find sheds and shrooms. Unfortunately there is cold weather behind this rain.

I might give it a quick look tomorrow and see if any popped. That’s the first I’ve heard of any being found in the state this year.

South and west facing slopes, especially with gravel/rocks on the surface.

Have heard reports of some grays being found over the weekend in southern Ohio. Wife and I looked a little yesterday but didn’t find anything. Should perk up here by this weekend.

I think a big flush will come in about a week.

A quick check today revealed a few small half-frees. Greys should be right behind them.20180425_154059.jpg

Mom and dad go mushroom hunting... kids go scorpion and armadillo killin.

It's been a dry, hot, and WINDY spring. I'm surprised we have found any.
