Rain!

After virtually no rain all summer, I finally got a good one last night! 4" in NEMO at my farms. Maybe something will grow now! How about you, Bill?

What is rain?

We just got over an inch last night, and more this morning. We needed it, but it kind of puts a damper on my plans.

We got 2” yesterday. Need a lot more to get back to normal.

We here in Eastern NC would LOVE to send you ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL the rain you can handle. As of today, we have had 20 inches since the 4th of July. My rain gauge here at my house is approaching 60 inches for the year and we still have 4 months remaining. We have standing water in our food plots. We try and plant brassicas around the 15th of August but that is out. Probably won't get them in at all due to standing water everywhere. It will probably take 2 weeks of NO rain to allow us to do any planting. We are hoping the ground water will subside in the next couple of weeks and we will give WW and WR a go. We can do a lot of things but you can't beat Mother Nature. Too much or too little rain will kill food plots EVERY time. Hope you guys in the upper Midwest will get timely rains and your plots will flourish.

We are just getting trace amounts... stuff is going around us, would be nice to get a little out of these fronts moving through

We had a good rain again last night and this morning in central Missouri too. We’ve really been struggling to get rain but that’s two decent rains in a week. I’m hoping there’s enough moisture in the ground to germinate my seed when I plant early next week. My wife is having surgery today and next weekend I have a wedding to attend so I hope to plant Monday and Tuesday. Then maybe we’ll get lucky and get a little more rain. It’s been a dry summer but not as bad as this time last year.

Good luck to your wife on her surgery, I hope all goes well!

Thanks - just talked to the surgeon and all went well. She had a torn rotator cuff but it was a best case scenario repair. She’ll be running and swinging a golf club again in no time. Thanks for the well wishes!

My place is in Calloway near Fulton. We've gotten over three inches in the last two weeks. I have about a 3-acre oat/pea plot that is looking great! Brassicas I seeded too thick in the other plot.

FarmLogs says 1.4 inches. Which is perfect. Brassicas went in on about the 8th. Rained that night and a few small showers since.

Last night should be the icing on the cake....

Thanks for the well wishes!

Little late but hopeful it keeps going well!

Wait that dates wrong. Went in the ground in July. I’ll have to look it up. But the main thing it rained :)

correcting my last post -- we are getting it now ! Makes me smile :-) pushing an 1.5" as I type and still coming down...

We've had more flash flood warnings and plain old flood warnings here this summer than the last 10 years combined. A walk through local lawns produces a squishing sound. We've had weeks of rain, showers, thunderstorms, that "train" - one follows another. No respite. Some roads & bridges in northern Pa. that were just rebuilt from flooding a year or 2 ago are once again destroyed. We're just now in a 4 day sunny stretch. We can use another 4 days of sun.

Happy to share some rain with you dry guys.

Farm logs says I got 2" on one farm and 3" on the other. The guy that lives by the 2" farm had 4" in the gauge. Farm logs is better than nothing, but I find it to be pretty inaccurate for me.

You should put a rain gauge in front of one of your Buckeye cams...

That's a good idea. Almost as extreme as my dad who uses his binocs to check the rain gauge 20' out his back door.

Hey BnB, can't believe the rains you've had out in PA. Hope you all can catch some relief and get to rebuilding. And that goes to the others out east suffering the same troubles.

We got .37" today. Enough to help things. Our area just hit the yellow color on the drought monitor two weeks ago, but we caught a few showers since then. Too much rain early on, followed by not enough. Often the case. Soon it'll be too wet again LOL.

Same here in Central PA and Northern PA may have even more. So much rain that I don't think my clover even went semi-dormant. Local fruit farm says the Honeycrisp are 2-3 weeks behind....not enough sun and too much clouds/rain.

Nights have been warm at camp too. Low for August was only 44 so far. Last year I had 3 August nights into the 30's. However, with water ponding for weeks and warm nights the 'skeeters have been crazy thick!

For me, sometimes farm logs nails it. Other times they are on the light side. So far it's never said I had more than I got.

A rain guage in front of the camera would be great for days like the the other night. The rest of this summer it would have been depressing every day. :)
