Ouch, high fence deer that got loose

imagine being a neighbor of one of these places that erects a high fence keeping freedom of movement from the wildlife they are one time enjoyed watching.
That is the people’s wildlife being caged in for an individuals enjoyment. Should be 100% illegal
This is another thing that I hadn't even considered because it's not common here.

I can't imagine how furious i'd be if I put years of work into a hunting property only for a neighbor to put up a high fence on the border full of CWD prone science experiment deer.

OK then

In my area the MEGA livestock farms and wind farms have really hurt home values of the neighbors within a couple miles of them, not to mention the environmental damage they can cause. Very hot topic locally.

Here in Ohio there have been a few deer farms in recent years that knowingly sold and transported diseased deer around and got caught, can’t imagine how many there could be that don’t get caught.

After reading more of this,I think more of us need to unite on what we agree on, and let go what we don't. The division and vitriol is not healthy. I have no desire to kill a fenced animal. But if someone wants to, knock yourself out. Lets keep disease out of general population, but for petes sake, there are so many more egregious things out there to get worked up about. They're killing human babies before they're born, they're trying to convince us that a piece of cloth will save us from almost certain death, they're trying to tell you that if you believe in God you're hateful. MUCH bigger fish to fry than some schlub putting a 7 mag in a deer with a tag in its ear.
Keep things in perspective, folks.

The land value can be an issue---If you are looking to sell, otherwise it should be beneficial to paying LESS property tax if the value is lower. I prefer lower taxes right up until the time to sell. Who says the value is lower? Guys at the coffee shop? County adjusters? Property(like anything else) is only worth what some else is willing to pay.

Shooting penned deer does have a market. But it should be monitored and regulated heavily. But shooting penned deer is not hunting.

I grew up farming, and we have butchered many cattle, and hogs ourselves. We would walk out and shoot the ones we wanted to butcher, we did this for many years, not once have I ever heard anyone refer to it as hunting, because it isnt. We had about a 100 acres fenced pasture. I think it is a fair comparison to shooting penned deer, neither is hunting!

Whataboutism doesn't make it go away. I don't see anyone saying deer farm issues are tops of their personal priority list.

I prefer tree tubes.

Wowzer, I didn't hear much about this since the initial story broke. I had no idea he shot it on the high fence in another state and claimed he actually hunted and killed it in KY. Him reaching out to F&S to get/buy his story is evidence enough to convince anyone with an open mind. F&S would never do a story about a high fence hunt lol The kid knew he paid for it, then tried to pass it off as a "potential state record" in KY :(

This is exactly why I said what I did in my earlier comment, people crave the attention they would have gotten if it was taken while hunting and want the admiration that comes with taking a big buck in the wild. Greed will cost you in the end!

I think one of the takeaways from the initial story of the penned buck escaping is that there needs to be harsher penalties for farms where captive-raised native species have escapes. How the hell does that even happen? Without even getting into CWD specifically, we know that farm-raised animals have been significant sources of disease. This seems to be a continuous problem and multiple states have had issues with it.

Nice avatar. Could you tell us briefly, how and where you got the ram? Private or public land? Guided or not?

There was no escape from a high fence, this guy tried to claim he killed it in Kentucky on his 5 acre property but he actually paid to kill it in Indiana on Patoka River Whitetails farm. He reached out to F&S to see if they were interested in his story in one screenshot and in another claimed it might be a new KY state record, so it is blatantly obvious that he was selling this as a fair chase deer hunt and had nothing to do with a deer escaping from high fence.

This article explains the whole story my friend.

This thread was started about a different deer that "escaped while they were moving them between pens" in KS. The clown in Indiana claiming the buck was shot in kentucky is a different story but it goes to show that bad press from game farms isn't unusual.

Thanks. Alaska. It was on public land as are all of the free range dall sheep hunts that I'm aware of. I hired a guide. Non-residents are required to hunt with a guide unless they have a close relative that is a resident accompanying them for the entirety of the hunt.

Oh geez, I didn't even realize they were different deer lol my bad there bud. I clicked on the link from one of the comments and it took me to a different story altogether and thought they were the same deer! :emoji_astonished:

The market?

Our latest local MEGA farm has two houses close to it that have been for sale for a few years and they just can't get them sold, one owner let the bank take the house back other home owner bought a different house but has not been able to sell the old house. Trouble with those is the smell from MEGA farm and the flies, they can't even rent them out.
Same thing has happened with homes in and around the wind farms having to sell at reduced prices or not able to sell. Buyers are not interested in the view or having shadows flashing across their homes all day and the sub sonic hum of the things.
So no not "Guys at the coffee shop?"
So when I said it has hurt home values that is exactly what I meant. The trouble is a direct cause and effect of neighbors property use.

Thank you for the clarification.

Here is that Indiana high fence spot. 145 acres including the stocked pond, the lodge, the pen for the breeding stock, and the livestock shooting area.
