Old Triple Drop Tine Warrior Down!

I'm thinking you missed something. I'm no good at scoring pics of deer but he looks bigger than that to me. Care to share any of the measurements?

I can't right now. We put a tape on him in the barn that night. Buddy was taping him, while I added on the phone. I'm not a big score guy. I need to get it scored by someone that knows their stuff. He isn't very wide, but good mass. Also, no real long tines. He just grew up on my farm and I feel blessed to stick him after 4-5 years of watching/filming him. Rack is at my taxidermist. If you say he's bigger, I'd believe you before me!

Look at "DropNov5" on youtube. That was him on 11-5-16. If he was 5.5 when I killed him, he would have been 3 then. He looks 4 or older to me. I need to dig up a series of pics of him from all the years. I have 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, and maybe 2014.

Couple things. First that is a beautiful set up with lots of mini eco systems going on. Very nice. Second. might want to invest in a video editor:)

The buck may well be 3 in that video. I haven't looked at a lot of Il. bucks but hocks aren't overly stained and face still looks young. Would love to see the pics....good for learning. How much did his rack grow from the video till you shot him? Lastly and this is totally unscientific but his face when you killed him does look 5.....but thats not a lot to go on .

I trust your opinion. He may be 5. I based it on the first year he was sporting a good drop, I didn't think he was 2. Just a gut feeling looking at his body. It's easy to be off at 4-5, but I usually can tell a 2.

Lol. I had a Sony Handicam on a stabilizer mount on my bow, inside a box blind. I was trying to move about without hitting my arrow on the wall. I had planned on killing him till he walked up and I decided to let him walk. Half the time I was watching the buck in my binos and wasn't very aware of where the cam was pointed. If the subject matter wasn't so good, I don't know who'd watch it.

I don’t see a hard fast 3 year old in that video. Maybe a couple angles here and there but mostly my mind says 4.
Tooth aging this way is not an exact science but “close”

Got my envelopes. Now I’m interested to see what they tell me. I pegged Luck at 3 when he showed up and killed him at what I say is 6. Time will tell.

I readily yield to those with more experience on northern deer.

I don’t know, you’ve studied way more elderly deer than me. November is tough. I do see what you mean in the face though. My son killed a 4 year old “based on aging the tooth”. That had a really short snout with no roman nose at all.

The thing that pushes me to 4 is the girth of the lower neck in the video. Just carries his chest right through the shoulders. November swells the upper neck but that lower neck is what gets me. I’ve been wrong before that’s for sure! If his back had more sway I’d argue it :)

2 TC pics from 2018.

2017. I think I agree with Deerage and Baker after reviewing the photos again. Probably was 5.5

I think I’m leaning that way also. The pic at the watering hole kinda changed my mind. He just looks like a beast though.

He’s a really cool deer in that he’s small but built like a tank. I have to dig up pictures of one my brother killed. Trail cam pics made him look like a wrestler but when he hit the ground he was small and stocky. Turned out to be my mistake. I put him on the hit list because I didn’t see long term potential and had him pegged at 3.5. Deerage said 2.5, so either they made a mistake or I made a “bad”one. I’m leaning towards me :emoji_rage:

Just found this pic from 2015 on a thumb drive. Sure looks bigger than a 2 year old in 2015, to me.

Mee too, even when I put my thumb over his antlers so there not showing.

Deer age got the last cent from me.

This is the first time I’ve ever sent teeth to Montana. Seems deerage was in Texas but isn’t now. Mine just went in.

I’ve always agreed when they came from Texas. I’ll know in July.

It may be time to look for another source.
