Not cup plant but maybe related?

First thought was cup plant but the leaves do not seem right as need two leaves opposite each other. Rosinweed does not match up either. Former rocky cow pasture so would assume tastes yucky or would have been wiped out...

Compass plant
Prairie dock
Jerusalem artichoke

all in the same family.
You’re right it’s not cup plant because the stem is round not square.

Sow thistle?

Sow thistle?

No, the flowers are bigger and not dandelion like at all.

But funny how the mind works. As I was walking around taking more pics a partial name just popped into my brain. I knew I had tried looking up the identity of this in years past but just could not remember details. So "enula" really is for inula helenium aka elecampane. I think that was what I had decided on years ago but could not remember

Geez after reading about the traditional uses for this plant maybe I should dig some up as contingencies against the Rona!
