Name this shrub

g squared 23

5 year old buck +
This has been on the field edge and I’ve resisted cutting or spraying as I’m not sure what it was. Today I looked it over and put it through the plantnet app and was intrigued. What do you all think? It was about 9-10 feet tall.

Mine are all browsed where they can reach them.
And they grow from cuttings.

They are one of the primary shrubs that fills the empty space when I kill junk trees in ditches.

The ditches part makes sense. Elderberries like damper, slightly wet soils. Nutritious berries that can be used to make jelly, pies, wine …………….. you guys probably don't drink anything alcoholic though, do you ??? :emoji_thinking:

Once you find one and notice it's white blooms which give it away at a distance - you will notice more and more of them. They are far more common here than I ever noticed before. I have been told that deer love to browse them, but I have more elderberry than deer so I don't see it too much. Biggest thing I see with them is when they outgrow the reach of the deer....then you need to give them a good whack - I only do 1/2 of the shrub to ensure I don't stress it too much. Yes they like water and prefer to grow in the shaded edges but will do very well in full sun as well.
