My little slice of Heaven

Your ninebark shrubs are looking good! You notice much browse on them? Curious what all will eat the berries after they flower.

Last year deer ate it back to 3-4 feet but it bounced back by the end of summer and grew what was lost. This year they bushed out a lot more so honestly I think it was beneficial in the end, I didn't think that last year though lol
I am not sure what eats the berries other than birds to be honest. I planted it to add woody browse for deer and the flowers are supposed to be good pollen sources for my honeybees.

I am stoked with the growth on my MG. Everything else I plant, with a few exceptions, seems very lethargic until I fertilize it. If I hold up the bent over blades they are almost 6 feet tall, as they stand on their own more like 4-5’ tall. Pretty good for only a few months growth.

It does grow fast!
I planted mine way to close together almost touching…not that it makes any difference, the county clowns generously mow it for me every fall.

I was just bragging up Blue Hill Nursery today and I just now got an email from Ryan making good on the trees I couldn't order this spring because when I went to check out they kept disappearing from my cart. Stoked to get some later dropping Pears and hardier northern zone Persimmons in the ground next spring!

Just wanted to document it here as it is a good place to keep the records.

Looks great, and for the mowers I would drive some T post right on the line and let that be a deterrent

Scored a 60” Swisher mower this weekend for $500, guy said it “just stopped running”. It wasn’t getting gas so first I changed the fuel filter but no dice, I bought a new carb for $40 and it fired right up :)

Nice looking pup!

What a great find with the mower! Great looking puppy too!

Thanks guys! I bought him from a local breeder that is a friend. She was getting $900 per dog, I didn't need a dog with papers, I just needed a dog to replace the one we had to put down last spring. This pup has an issue with one eye and the vet she was taking him to said he would likely lose sight in that eye permanently but there is a chance he might not. It has been 16 years since I have had a puppy and literally got the rude awakening last night at 11pm, 1:30am and 3:30 am to let him out of the kennel to do his business. My daughter got up too, so at 3:30 she slept on the floor next to the kennel and he slept until I got up at 4:45. Not much sleep at all lol

Gotta love the mower deal.

Great looking pup, seems like yesterday when mine was little and now she won't go to the farm very often just too stoved up I guess.Hopefully he's not a chewer

I have a Honda 350 Rancher FE and a 60” Swisher pull behind mower. I was mowing my trails this weekend and twice it bogged down and stalled, it had more heat than I would expect between my legs from the normal riding I do. I let it sit for a couple hours and resumed the first time but parked it the 2nd time because the last thing I need is the wheeler back in the shop. In all fairness my land is all hill and although the mower feels heavy the wheeler pulls it without slipping tires or bogging down normally, both times it acted up I was on the long uphill strip. I bought the wheeler early May and it needed $1,700 in shifting gears, I knew it was broke when I bought it and it ended up the worst case scenerio but still paid a fair price for it after the repairs. I dropped it off on May 24th and didn’t get it back until September 10th (we don't have many options in my area for mechanics) so although I wouldn’t ever risk damaging the wheeler, I was testing the setup before mowing where I’m putting in a food plot and it took so damn long to get it out of the shop the first time, and plots should already be greening up so I’m late starting the plot, but if I send it back to the shop I know I will never get it back before snow flies and have so many other things to do that require the wheeler. Gosh I can write a book lol I did make sure the very small radiator was clean before posting this.

Do you guys use this type of setup without any problems on hilly land? Is the wheeler too small or maybe I just have an issue with the cooling system (I suspect)? There is an idiot light for over temp that never lit up and it has a fan that never turned on (I kept a close eye on both after the first stall). I suspect overheating because I can only pull at 5 mph because the grass got out of control on the trails and the obvious heat I could feel before it stalled and the way it bogged down was almost what I’ve experienced in the past acting like it was pre-fire conditions with a bit of knocking. A couple hours later it would fire right up where it stalled and pull just fine up the hill. After the first stall half of me thought I had it in a higher gear then I thought and was the reason for the stall, the 2nd time I just parked it because I knew I was in first gear and only going 5 mph. It was only 75 degrees when all this happened so not like extremely hot out.

Hind site I should have taken a picture of it hooked up to put the question into context but once it was hooked up I was all business lol

This was my driveway this morning, I spent a lot of coin this spring to get the drainage fixed that prevents exactly this from happening at the top, my driveway is just short of 700' long. He installed a bigger culvert (went from 36" to 60") under the driveway and it still got plugged, the water jumped into and down my driveway, the ruts are about 18” deep the water is about 12” deep. It has never done this before at the bottom so it was a bit of a soul crush moment to see all that stone in the road.

At some point I WILL win this fight, it just wasn’t today.

7F4DFE7E-8136-46A9-A3FB-94694CDDB992.jpegMost of my MG ended up 4-5’ tall since I planted it this spring, but there’s always that one that excels and throws a tassel at the top.

Off to the races now..

Anytime I have the option to hang a stand in a tree, I prefer to hang one from a tree with multiple trunks because it hides me so much better. This tree isn't the ideal example, I am at work, these are behind a building I was working at today and couldn't help but notice all the pines in this row look similar with multiple leaders at roughly the same height and it looks unnatural so it got me thinking if I could replicate it for trees on my land.

Not sure how to word this so bare with me. How do I prune a pine tree to end up looking similar to this? Obviously the central leader has to get cut to promote multiple leaders, but at what point do I cut the leader? Did the tree pictured get its central leader broken at the height the multiple leaders start?

I had 6 native Apples still holding today on my walkabout, the deer have fed on these all winter. I hope they show in these pictures, it’s tough to tell on my phone without zooming in.
Some of the MG still standing and one pic of my only son, 7 month old Bruno :)
