Oh i know. The only way to hunt that stand is a very very very strict west wind. You can get away with more in the early season when there are not so many deer. That ridge line is a barren field so not much travel up there. That is where the tower stand is.That's a lotta mouths to feed. Be careful what you wish for when you say you wanna see deer. Sometimes it can be equally tough to get good hunting if there are that many. Looks like you've got a good area
A well maintained clover plot, a buttload of corn, woody browse, thermal cover, and it is all secluded. It makes for a good little set up. That stacked with a few bean plots we left during harvest and you have yourself a honey hole. What has them so piled up in there?
That’s pretty sweet. Is it planted corn or from a bag?A well maintained clover plot, a buttload of corn, woody browse, thermal cover, and it is all secluded. It makes for a good little set up. That stacked with a few bean plots we left during harvest and you have yourself a honey hole.
That seems to be my biggest issue with beans. They are typically gone or are close to it by this time of the year. I have never experimented with over seeding into beans. We have had luck getting some good cover crop growing when we would have it flown in on a corn field. How do you overseed? Broadcast? My bean plot is 100% consumed as of late this past week. There will be plenty of beans to pick through for them that have fallen to the ground but i'd be willing to bet that in another week my plot will go from having 10+ deer a night in it to completely void of new tracks. I am going to a .9 maturity bean next year. That should allow me the opportunity to get a good brassica plot over seeded into it. This past year I got some top growth but nothing for bulbs. (it was exceptionally dry this year but the earlier leaf drop sure will help)
Ear corn we picked from one of our fields. I know some guys are against feeding deer but we do a lot of it. We hardly ever hunt over them. Believe it or not, out of the 19 deer we took off our properties this year only one came from that food plot. It is more of a make sure they go to bed extra full kind of thing lol. We hardly ever use shelled corn now. When we do, it is a custom mix we have madeThat’s pretty sweet. Is it planted corn or from a bag?

My plots are are about 1/2 acre. I just walk through them with a bag seeder at the appropriate time of year. My 1/2 acre bean plot (the only bean plot i had this year unfortunately) Has lasted up till now. There is other ag and halfway decent browse in the area so that is the reason I can get away with small plots. That seems to be my biggest issue with beans. This post is why you belong on this website. There are more theories and ideas to this sort of thing than you can shake a stick at. Come on in, click thru the habitat and foodplot section. LOTS to learn regarding deer habitat. As a farmer, you probably know a lot of it, but how it pertains to deer can have some slight changes. That seems to be my biggest issue with beans. It is all about the total amount of food. On some of our farms, overall tonnage of food is poor. These bean plots are slaughtered by December. Other bean plots get lucky and make it til this time of the year because there is collectively more food everywhere. What other browse are you referring too?My plots are are about 1/2 acre. No, not a flex. Yes, lots of corn. I would like to think it is more than just corn. Especially because this area is rather productive without it. More just sharing a picture with a lot of deer.Is this a “flex” ? Big ole pile of corn
