It processes 8 gallon of sap to give me 4 gallons of concentrate per hour. I run it as I'm cooking and generally keep pace. My home made cooker (barrel stove kit) doesn't cook that fast. Maybe I need to upgrade my cooker? You can cook 100 gallons in 10 hours? I was going to build one but as I priced it, RO Bucket was about the same price if I bought all the components separately.

Review on the bucket ro?

Just got done bottling syrup from yesterday. Ended up with just shy of 2 1/2 gallons.

Ah...I see. So 8 gallons of sap per hour. So 100 gallons would take about 12 hours to process into 50 gallons. That's much better.

Yes, my 2x4 evaporator will do about 12 gph. So 100 gallons of sap would take about 8 hours. With RO that 100 gallons becomes 50 gallons and that would be about a 4 hour boil.

If I did RO I think I'd have to size up the unit so it could process sap a little quicker.

A lot of guys have flow switches on the unit. Run it over night so it's all done in the morning. Crew my uncle cooks with does that.
I've heard from a birdie that they are sizing up next year so hoping to buy the current one.

I got the kit you have to assemble with one membrane filter unit(RB5). I will probably expand next year but I really like it. I did assemble it in a 5 gallon bucket but will be moving it to a board to its easier to change the pre-filters. It was $360 and it saves me a bunch of wood and time. Adding another membrane filter will be about $100.

Ah, now we're talking. So it runs all night and you wake up to a huge reduction in sap. Yes, I think I need to invest for next year.

Chucker, would just another filter increase your volume or would you need a bigger pump also?

I got the bigger pump to begin with so I can add 2 more membranes if I want. That would do 12 to 15 gallons ((25 to 30 gallons of sap) per hour. My buddy has one with 3 membranes and he cruises through the sap. I wanted to start smaller to see what I thought of it. So far so good.
