Made it to the farm today

that's a load of projects you got done. Good exercise. How did you prep the ground for the miscanthus?

it’s going on the edge of last years corn so it’s pretty weed free. Trenching with a middle buster and kicking dirt over them. A few areas where it’s clay and clumpy, I borrowed a friends 3 point tiller to fluff up the ground.

20 mph winds today. Laid down just before dark. I finished with headlights and the gps.

spent the day rebuilding the hydraulic sprayer pump that I rebuilt last November and put the seal in backwards :emoji_rage:
After I figured out I had a bad ground that kept the tractor from starting.

Do you have problems with Japanese beetles in your apple trees. My trees get hit so bad every spring it really stunts growth.

Took your advice on a middle buster a couple years ago ... great time & back saver :emoji_thumbsup:

no Jap beetles yet. I don’t want them!

Bill, you are an inspiration for sure, planting that much Miscanthus in such a short period of time is remarkable. We have always been lucky with no Japanese beetle damage as well. I wonder what our secret is.

That sounds like a great way to do that. Thanks

actually I can’t wait for about three years from now. My immediate neighbor did his road also. All told it will be a row of about 1.75 miles.

My trees are surrounded buy 40 AC of CRP. Wonder if that is good habitat for Jap beetle and Asian lady bugs. Will never plant another apple tree but insects leave the pear trees alone.

Bill, I am envious of your dry ground and ability to plant. Down here in Pike Co, it will be another month before I would even try to pull the tractor out of barn without getting it stuck in mud.

that’s normal here also. Just got lucky this year. I may be early this year with the cold weather but I used treated seed. Hopefully it makes it.

Do you add additional inoculant with your beans, regardless if they are treated?

Good timing on the beans, here comes the rain, and hopefully the mushrooms.

I'm hoping for that rain...
