Life in Virginia

Just wondering if any of our Virginia members attended the gun rights rally today? Wondering how things are going there?

Trampled... If I could like that post 7,000 times I would

I heard reports of 22,000 people there, and totally peaceful.

PEACEFUL protesting/rally’s for what people believe in are what make us the best country in the world. Whether you agree with them or not. It’s better than being told how you have to live your life.

I don't understand why they all dressed up like operators in full tacti-cool combat gear?

I believe that they are trying to take that stuff away as well (bulletproof vests, helmets etc...) I think they are wearing them as part of the demonstration...

I wasn't there so I don't know, but maybe they dressed in full gear because the 2nd is for a well armed militia. Maybe that's their point?

It was good to see a great turn out yesterday, and no big troubles. They represented us gun owners well in the eye of the enemy media.
Just a question, why is the NRA so quiet, and not involved in this? Dont they receive big money to stand up for our gun rights?

You are wildly misinformed. They are not "Trying to take those things away".

There are 3 things they are trying to do in VA legislature.

1) You can only buy 1 handgun in a 30 day period. (folks currently are buying many and gun running them elsewhere).

2) Mandatory background check for gun purchase except for between family members (my guess is to close down gun show loophole).

3) Authorize a locality to prohibit guns a public space during a permitted event, if they wished to.

I am not saying I agree or disagree with these 3,.. just letting folks understand what is trying to be done,.. and why folks are there in tactical gear dressed for war.

Is it true that this is just the first wave in the legislature's plan to have stronger laws? I read somewhere that they had announced stronger measures were the ultimate goal, that the new Governor wanted complete gun control. Of course I don't believe most of what I read in the media so it's good to hear from people who are there.

Northam wants "assault weapons" banned. He and his allies have said so. This is the tip of the iceberg.

Edited for spelling.

They banned assault weapons here in my state Mass.

Here is mine,.. I saw the ban coming and bought an AR two days before they shut it down.

Trump banned my Bump so that is gone,.. but here is what I had. I was nervous as hell,.. here is the first firing of it.

30 rounds, 3 seconds

What's your point? And who gets to decide what an assault weapon is? I don't trust Northam to make that decision. Do you?

Any new gun laws are just a stepping stone of what their final objective is. They know that banning them all at once will never work but if they can get a little at a time over a long period they will eventually be able to ban everything.

I too have shot bump stocks, full auto, and I will tell you without a doubt, if the first couple didnt hit the target, the remaining 28 had no chance.
If I wanted to take out specific targets, it sure wouldnt be with a full auto, or a bumpstock.

I did not attend, but here is the problem with the rally as I see it. It was organized and attended nationally, at least that is how the press portrayed it. Given the last election in VA, I doubt that the state legislature will be influenced by the rally. Had 22,000 Virginia residents attended, it would likely have had more impact. I'm actually glad to see this legislation coming forward. Hopefully it will inspire more participation in the next election. VA is swinging left on a state wide level with the changing demographics in northern VA, Hampton Roads, and other urbanized areas. I foresee liberal governor's going forward, but we can only blame ourselves for the legislature.

Thanks,

Jack

But assault weapons can still be easily bought and sold. Anything pre-94 AWB can still be bought and imported into the state. Not saying that the current ban doesn't suck, but it's not like you can't own or buy one.

Using terms such as "assault weapons" only adds to the problem.
