Not really sure....ask Native Hunter....he will know. Some trees I can id in the winter, while others are more of a challenge. If I am not sure....I just wait until they leaf out and then try to ID it then. If the leaves are too high to see well or clearly...use Binos. I have even taken pics with my cell phone thru binos before...
Identifying trees in the winter is tough enough in person, and even harder on a computer screen. However, I agree with ruskbucks that it has that elm look.
Are those 4 pics of the same tree? The only one of them the looks close to a Box Elder to me is the first pic. Most all of the ones I have are not straight at all and are multi branching at all angles, also as you can see in that one pic of mine they easily sucker too. Not sure on the elm tree sorry.

Oh ok I gotcha, the pic you posted is a box elder. That helps so I can look closer on what I got. You are correct the first picture was different than the other pictures, but since they looked so similar I lumped them together. I think the first tree I posted is Box Elder, and the others were elm per the other recommendations.
