Finding them in NE MO too. Went to some nearby Public today and found a descent sack. Found a couple hundred yesterday on my property that are very small, just coming up. Going to return in a couple days for them.

Looks like a good mix of greys and yellow. An old timer told me the other day that April 25th was one of his best morel days over the years.

H2O, do you cook them up lots of different ways? Great Haul! My aunt is a chef and she gave me a cookbook a few years ago that's entirely morel recipes. Before that I only thought they could be cooked 2 ways, fried or sauteed on steaks. :emoji_astonished:

g squared, anything in central IL yet? The understory here still looks sparse enough that our spots won't be up. Historically it really needs to be a jungle.

Wife and I found about 8# yesterday afternoon. We left quite a few small ones. We need some rain for it to be crazy good.

My cousin found a few pounds of greys last sunday, so the yellows should be out now. With work and family, I haven’t made it out.

It's weird how they are coming up this year it has been very wet and cool this spring.
We have even been finding the pepper tops that are usually the last ones to show.

They can be cooked a bunch of ways and added to different dishes especially soups.
Here is a my favorite one we do, stuff the tops with a mix of cream cheese crab meat and scallions bread like a fish chunk or hot wing and deep fry;

Our go to most times because we usually don't have a lot and it helps it go further...mix shrooms with a little cracker and egg and fried in a pan;

If we have a lot, just halved and fried in a little garlic butter is great too, the ways to prepare them are endless...for us it really depends on how many we find.

That top batch with the cream cheese looks awesome. I'll try both of those. I know soups are pretty common. Just need to find a few pounds now. I think we're close. Nearby town has a Morel Fest each year. Most years they miss the timing, but this year maybe they'll hit it pretty close.
