Hopefully I'll be competent by the time i have apples and pears to harvest. In the mean time, I'm starting from square one with cider, mead, and beer.

I'm still waiting to hear how the Mtn. Ash jelly came out. :emoji_thumbsup:

I've been brewing for about 20 years. Last winter I made a batch using mtn. ash berries during the primary boil. Came out decent. Good luck.

Yeah, fall is crazy busy, I forgot to update that. I made the jelly. Will update that thread soon.

Id like to make mead. Ive got the honey.

Don’t get discouraged at first with your cider. Ciders are notoriously difficult to brew with a clean flavor, and it will take some experimentation with temps and yeast strains. Sometimes they are best drank a month old, sometimes a year old. We did a few batches a year for several years and I always enjoyed the process.

I still haven’t done mead, but it is definitely on the list. I used to do a TON of all grain home brewing, and even worked at a brewery for a few years to learn more. It is almost as addicting as habitat work and hunting, so be forewarned! Haha

I made my first batch from an extract kit. Turned out great. I did another cider, which is conditioning in bottles now. And I have a pear cider fermenting now.

I also bought another bucket and have a beer going now. It's an IPA kit from Young's.

I went over to a buddy's place a fee weeks ago to learn how to brew from whole grain. It was pretty cool. But the equipment is too expensive for me now. I will save up and probably start this summer.

i've been homebrewing for years. beware, after a few batches, you'll want to upgrade your equipment. you'll find out quickly that bottling sucks, kegging is where it's at. here are a couple great forums to learn from.

Great, I just spent an hour reading those forums and come up with some ideas. If my wife gets angry I'm blaming you. :emoji_laughing:

I had to remove homebrewtalk from my life because it became such a problem! Haha. I also went Keto so beer didn’t fit in my diet plan anymore. Lost a bunch of weight, and kind of considering adding home brew back in but at a more reasonable rate than I used to do.

It will probably help that I don’t work at a brewery anymore, and that I don’t hang out with professional brewmasters every day I have off. I’m thinking 2 batches a month is reasonable if I share with friends ;-)

You could start again with something that has to condition a long time. Then you get to brew without the motivation to drink the beer right away.

I went Keto some years ago. The first week was hell, the second week was not quite as bad, and after that I felt amazing. I really want to do it again, but it is a difficult and expensive lifestyle here.

I just started a batch of Skeeter Pee Wine this weekend. I put the yeast starter in tonight. I screw up, I had a big zip lock full of blackberry's I was going to put in it. After I had squeezed all the juice out of them I grabbed a jar that hadn't been sterilized and poured it in. I realized what I had done before I added it to the must. That was a lot of work to no avail but I dont want to take a chance or have to babysit it. It will be ready in about a month.
I just finished a batch of Black IPA. One of the best beers I've ever done. Fixing to buy an kit for a Milk Stout. I've been brewing for close to 10 years.I mostly do partial extract kit just because I have way more hobbies than brewing and kits are quicker. Mostly from norther Brewer and Apex .
Really fun. Homebrewtalk is a great place. Tons of info on there. Good luck to you. I started with a kit just about like that. Cheers !

What I have learned is that there is a lot to learn about cider making. One of the best was just wild yeast that sat in the fridge for months and the cider was From Norlands from a friend.

I currently have a half gallon in the fridge with wine yeast in it. It tastes smooth but does not seem like much alcohol in it.

I wanted to take a cider course this fall, but it was filled.
