People usually post pictures when they want something identified, but let's see how I can do without one. My guess is that it's "Tree of Heaven."

I took this photo today. The bright green one is tree of heaven, and the other is winged sumac. I've never seen browsing on tree of heaven. 20210905_141739.jpg

I think you need 5 or 10 posts to be able to post a pic.
Hurry up and make some more posts.

If you have tree of heaven, don't procrastinate on getting rid of it. I didn't prioritize it when they showed up here and they spread fast.

A sumac picture from our place below.

Teeth on the leaf edge is a great way to confirm. (Sumac have “teeth”, tree of heaven have smooth edges).

Do either one have any benefit? Or kill both?

Sumac is native and a low to moderate favored browse plant when young - and there are some different varieties of it. You can also make lemonade with Staghorn Sumac. Just don’t touch poison sumac.

I’ve never seen deer browse Ailanthus (Tree of Heaven, actually hell). Easy way to tell if it Ailanthus is the leaves are smooth edged but the part of the leaf towards where it attaches will have one or two glandular teeth. Take the leaf and crush it and smell it and you will find out why another name for this tree is stinking sumac.

Staghorn sumac is beneficial to wildlife and i like having it around. Tree of heaven should be given the scorched earth treatment.

This is what good tree of heaven looks like. Treat the stumps immediately if cutting down completely. Hack and squirt if not. They have a defense mechanism that will send up multiple shoots if not treated. 20210905_120644.jpg

I thought I had posted pictures before but maybe not . The pictures I have are of a tree with white berries on it some in the 30’ tall range & have quite a few of them .

The trees are not very big diameter, maybe 2”-4” in size.

It's either Rough Leaf Dogwood or Grey Dogwood. Both have white berries. RLD will have hairs on its stems and very hairy leaves. GD will have no stem hairs and light hairs on leaves.

After further review it is grey dogwood & I have quite a few of them. Thanks Native and for everyone’s input.

If I drop a ToH on my place, the deer browse every single leaf within a couple days. I'm telling ya, if that tree in your pic was on my place it would look like the "before" photo. The "after" pic would show it with zero leaves remaining. My deer go nuts over the crap. I don't intentionally encourage ToH, but I always choose to cut it in late September because it does provide some very preferred browse.
