Who needs to go to a pond when we can just walk around Chucks front yard?

Will there be a follow up post in the “what’s for dinner” thread.
I turned that one lose after I let Chuck' s boys look him over good, but it wouldn't take to many like that to have a mess of fried frog legs!

In High school my buddy and I used to run around with a flat bottom boat in the back of the truck and hit all the local irrigation ponds.

Today I look at those ponds and the herbicide and dairy farm run off and you couldn't to pay me to eat frog legs from them.

Back then they were using paraquat but we didn’t know any better :)

That is a nice frog! I do love frog legs fried fresh in garlic butter!
We live next to a large lake and go out a couple times a year and fill a sack up.

Lol, I've not heard anyone mention paraquat since I was a kid. The pot growers were certain the state planned to spray their "crops" with it instead of cutting them down and dragging it off.
I guess it didn't bother them though, I never noticed a drop in the local pothead population.

Back at work after a great weekend. Chuck and I saw several, but the only deer to be had this time was found in my deer cabbage stew.
There aren't many things more enjoyable than being at the farm discussing plans for the future and the hunt in the morning with family or friends.
Our gun hunt opens again next Saturday, maybe Chuck will see his target buck again.

It looks like this is going to be a stellar year for plum jelly.
Also, not the best picture, but that my first try at chestnut grafting growing. It's luvalle's monster on a Chinese seedling.
I made a few walnut and papershell pecan grafts today as well.
I'll give it about two more weeks then try my luck with everbearing mulberry and Pakistan mulberry grafting.

Thanks! I should update this better than I have lately, but I've been running like the proverbial chicken with it's head cut off lol!

Nice work, Merle !! Like H20 said, our camp is just waking up after a long winter. It looks like you're in mid-summer greenery down there. Good luck with all those grafts. Wishing you a good growing season.

My Luvalle's Monster graft is putting on the growth! I took this pic about 2 and a half weeks after the last.
Looks like I'll get to try Wilson's June apples this summer too.

If you're ever curious about what dicamba does to apple trees here it is.

A few from today plus a few from 1 of my cameras.
Arkcharm, the first crop on this tree. Hope I get it, it only made one this year.
Wilson June, we actually tasted one today. Very tart, but good. CAR is going to be an issue with it.
One of my favorite assistants checking out the winesap apples while avoiding a cotton spider.
Captain Davis apples, first crop on this one too.
Lastly, a few deer pics, a grey fox, and some weird guy in a hat. He has been in the sun to long I think.

Just for the record, game cameras have ruined Chuck as a meat hunter lol!
I can see a lot of anxious days between now and bow season.

Nice buck!

Those dang game cameras have saved a lot of decent sized "used to be" shooters up here too! :emoji_wink:

A few more from today. My biggest ACCF chestnuts growing well. Still no burrs yet, but maybe next year.
Calloway crabs loaded up too.
We tied or broke several low records for the state this morning. Another great day to play in the hills.
