Habitat projects for the weekend?

It's about stone dead in my office right now, thought I'd throw up a discussion post. What's everyone got going on this weekend?

I've got a bunch of little things to do. This weekend is shooting lane weekend. I moved a blind and bulldozed out a new plot, so I've got some cleanup and opening to do. I also need to get some storage improvements made in my garage, and then get the wheeler serviced. Been talking about that all summer. It's been a year and I've got 28 hours on that engine oil already.

Then I'll do some trail cleanup and some shovel work where I left it kind of ragged with the excavator. Nothing too serious, but enough to keep me productive.

I think I will put my lock on bow stands up tomorrow and a couple of ground blinds. The season does not start for a couple of months yet, but that will give time for the deer to adjust. I would put my fall brassicas in, but I don't see much in the forecast for rain this next week. I have some weeds in one of my bean plots that I will spray if I have time as well.

Antelope decoy came in this afternoon. May try to practice shooting from behind it. Got lots of rocks that need moved to clean out gravel that I've hauled. Might try to catch a fish. Otherwise the boy has a tournament in Wichita with games at 10, 2, and 7. Wont be a lot of time to get much done.

Headed out Sunday for a week. Since it’s going to be in the 90’s I may sit in the air and look outside.
But my plan is to put down the final spray on beans if needed.
Mow anything that’s sticking it’s head above the clover.

Throw some brassica seed down (because I’m there)

move a box blind about 100 yards with the FEL. (Been meaning to do that for 3 years)

2 ladder stands in the barn need a spot.

I have a camera down I need to check on and a repaired one to hang.

Cry over what went wrong and smile about about anything that went right.

And just because you mentioned it I’ve got shooting lanes that need some attention.

1/2 that might get done. Except the crying part. That always seems to be consistent.

Waking up at 4 and driving 225 miles to a softball tournament

Since I can't make it down south, scout some public land in MN for fall archery.

This morning we finally got some rain. When it ends we will probably have gotten about an inch. I will be planning on mowing my clover plots, and putting down some lime. I sprayed Clethodium on my clover plots, but it was so dry that the grasses were pretty dormant when I sprayed, so I didn’t get a decent kill on the grasses. So I will probably spray again now that we got some rain. Then finish up on some other projects around the house I have going on.

I got great rain up here too. I can add spreading winter wheat to my chores today. The moisture is here, it's time to get growing fall plots.

Tearing down Mile-a-Minute. I have weevils but they aren't keeping up with the MaM. I am seeing success in my battle. Places where I ripped down the crap last year didn't produce seed and it isn't growing in those spots this year. But where I didnt get to it last year, the stuff is trying to take hold. I'm determined to stop it from seeding.

I'm also pulling down grape vines that are trying to smother everything. The deer love it when I do that. They'll be in it around dusk and will eat every leaf they can reach.
I have a couple shooters in it every evening...I think I'm conditioning them to my odor. They don't seem to mind my disturbance. The actually like it.

Limed and disced today. Getting ready for some clover/chicory

Working this weekend, but brassicas plots this week.

Planted 4 small brassica plots. One shown below. Put up a ladder stand. Put the shell on my soft sided redneck blind. Mowed some clover that will get planted to cereals in mid august.

Couple weeks ago I got 6 pork roast (25lb) for about $1.20/ lb from Coburns. Last night I salted them up, and this morning I am smoking them on the pit boss. Gonna shred them up when they are done and refreeze them and use the meat for bear bait. Gonna wait to throw the meat into the baits until I get a decent bear to start hitting and use the meat to try and keep him coming back.

Yeah, I was holding out until we got some rain. My first frost is Sept 30th. I was worried I couldn't get it germinated in time to get tonnage if I waited any longer. I've got every other thing under the sun planted with it: Jap millet, collards, annual clovers, spring wheat, WGF sorghum, buckwheat, sunflower, and flax. And I haven't planted what I actually want to grow there yet. Around labor day I'll be adding in alfalfa, fixation, ladino, dutch white, vetch, birdsfoot trefoil (BFTF), ragweed, black eyed susan, purple coneflower, willowherb, sky blue aster, wild bergamot,

Bracing a ladder stand, cutting in for a new tower blind, broadcasting red clover in beans, watering apple trees .... hopefully

I got the bear bait done. Shut the grill down and I will let them cool down and then I need to shred them and pull the bones out for it to be legal bait. Gonna freeze one roast per bag and its just gonna be a little extra perk at my two bait stations.
