Giant Miscanthus?????

TD ... sorry my friend ... MG likes warm temps - up to a point. We travel to San Antonio several times a year; November and early December are always the best times (weather) to visit. Love SA and Austin - a real hip city

So, I did my first try at MG in early June. Then the rain spigot shut off. Haven’t seen a single one break through the ground (that I can see). Any hope or advise to offer?

It likes water a lot but not wet feet (root rot); we actually crown ours about 6-8 inches for run off. As many know, it dies back from the center outward requiring a replanting about every 8-10 years for max performance. Cut the dead stalks out every year (sawsall, chainsaw, loppers, corn knife, etc), mulch (for moisture retention -- lay the stuff you cut parallel to the plant for mulch ... it will mat pretty well, and eliminate competition and your plants will thrive. Some of the plants in post 34 above are NOT MG ...; they are plain old miscanthus (e.g. gracillimus, zebra grass) you can buy on sale at big box stores late in spring (higher cost than rhizomes from Maple River. But, it adds diversity, color and plenty of screening for your efforts.

I have an area that I'd like to screen, but I'm concerned about the "wet feet" comments. My area is borderline wet. Sone years beans grow here, some years is too wet. Is there something to use in that situation?

How tall of screening does the spot require?

Unfortunately, the wettest spot needs the highest screen. I do plan on trees there, but hoped for something quicker until they get some height.
