Genesis 5

Nightvision

5 year old buck +
Hello all. Newbie from Georgia.
I have a Kubota L4600 4wd with FEL. I want a no till BAD. I see the Genesis 5 has a light duty and then the heavy model.

Looking at my specs, I’m close to being able to handle the heavy. All flat here. No hills. Does anyone have my tractor and the Genesis 5 heavy or a tractor close to mine that can give me real world feedback on lifting it?

Thanks
NV

Several good threads on here discussing Genesis , 606NT ,and various other seeders that are informative

welcome!

Based on your lift capacity I'd be looking at the 5 Light. I'd love to have this drill as well, but based on only planting around 5 acres a year, I like the price point of the 3 better.. Would be a snack for our 50 HP 4WD :emoji_slight_smile:

I know the light would be better but I like the thought of the heavier, beefier built heavy model. Problem is my tractor may be almost enough. If I actually get to the point of buying one, I’ll take my tractor to the dealer and see if it will lift the heavier one. If not, the light will work.

When I do it, may be a year or two, I will start a food plot planting business. When I do that and I’m planting a little more, my thoughts are it would be nice to have a stronger, more well built drill.

Lifting an empty drill isn't the same as one loaded down with seed. I know, Mr. Obvious. Just don't want you to get where you are underpowered for what you're doing...

I don't know much about tractors but did hire someone to plant one of my plots this year. With the drought, drilling made more sense than broadcasting. He had the 5 foot Genisis HD. Said that he had tried a different tractor that was rated high enough to lift the drill but he had hard time keeping enough weight on the front end to keep the thing maneuverable, even with added weight on the front end. He ended up getting a larger tractor very soon after getting the drill.

I bought a Genesis 5 heavy duty about a year and a half ago. Mainly because I like the idea of "heavy duty", and that was what the implement dealer had ready to go. However, when they say heavy duty, they REALLY mean it. This thing is a beast! My old JD 4700 could not maneuver it without picking up a front end loader bucket of dirt for ballast. My new 4066R can barely maneuver it without the bucket load of dirt, but will pop wheelies when going up hill. I plan to get some sort of front weight kit for the 4066R, just to make maneuvering the G5HD more comfortable while still having access to use the front bucket.

Both tractors will not lift the G5HD with the tractor at idle. The throttle needs to be at a higher setting to get enough oomph to pick up the 3 point hitch. Again, really really heavy. If I had it to do over, I would NOT get the heavy duty model.

To emphasize just how heavy and well built, while loading the just arrived unit onto a trailer for transport to the farm, the pallet broke allowing the unit to topple off of the fork lift and land on it's head. And it did not just roll off, it fell from a height of 3' or so. I was just sick to my stomach, thinking I ruined my expensive new machine before ever putting it on the tractor. Once up-righted and inspected, it had a broken plastic knob on the transmission, a slight wrinkle in the grain box, and two of the plastic windows were popped out of place. RTP was kind enough to send me a new plastic knob at no cost, the plastic windows were siliconed back into place, and I decided to live with the slight wrinkle in the grain box. I truly believe any other machine would have been crumpled, possibly beyond repair.

Thanks for that information. The tractor I have now is too small for the heavy. It’s a 49hp Kubota. My dad has a 68hp Kubota. Wonder if he would like to trade?

Not very Happy with RTP Genesis today.

Got a call today while I was playing golf down here in OZ....regarding the RTP Genesis 5 Light drill. I made a commitment to purchase in early September.......and it was supposed to be here in Oct, Then Nov, Then Dec, Then Jan.....and now they dont know when. Also they had committed to sell me at the 2021 prices....but now that deal is off the table.....and the drill is $2000 + more than last years price. I told him to keep the drill.....gonna get along with what I got.

Been a frustrating experience to purchase this way......and I am certain many farmers have far bigger issues than I do. How fast times have changed. Let's Go Brandon.....FJB. I dont like buying stuff from folks that cannot keep their word. I may already own a better solution. Or, maybe not? Dunno. At any rate.....I would wager that any future drill will NOT be an RTP product.

I can inquire if that lightly used one is still available if you’d be a buyer at $12.5k?

I'm possibly interested. Location? Is it the "lite" version?
