Cuddelink general Q&A recommendations

for some reason mounting a camera on a post where theres int any vegetation touching the camera really helps prevent ants but i still spread ant poison where i have trouble with them.
i saw them going in/out thru the mic hole.

might have engineering team take a look at options to re-design and seal that off.

If there is a camera I didn't spray enough permethrin around I almost always find ants near the SD card and the display. I always assumed they were getting in through the latch.

i can see the SD slot as being a breech point too, there is a little open square right next to the SD door, which gives them access around the square gasket thats supposed to close off the SD opening. but, mine has a little chewed area with a little brown ant stain in the corner, which i think they opened themselves to give them another access in side as well.

tell me a little more about how you use the permethrin? do you hose down the camera, or just spray it on the mount, the tree or tpost, or what?

I don't use straps but use screw in mounts or the Cuddeback pan and tilt mounts to mount them to trees. This makes it easier to defend the cameras. I spray the tree area around where the camera mount connects to the tree. I also spray the mount itself, but never the camera. Be very generous with the spray. This normally lasts for most of the summer, but in wetter years (like this one for northern Missouri), it seems to need another spray or two. I typically only run Cuddebacks in the summer over an old mineral site or a trail so I'm not having to visit the camera anymore than I have to and can access it with a side by side.

Honestly, this is probably the worst year I've ever seen for ants and it's making me question if it is worth it to run cameras during the summer. If it wasn't for how much my Dad loves getting the regular photos, I probably wouldn't run them until September to avoid the ants all together.

man, this discussion might actually yield me more fruit than just for camera defense... i had a tree stand that was unusable all year as it was COMPLETELY infested with an ant colony. imagine my surprise when i climbed up and sat down for a hog hunt, and ants and ants ants ants never ending ants start streaming out of all the tree stand piping! i had to pull it down from the tree, and it took two days of shooting water thru the pipes to finally flush them all out. piles of eggs came out, enough to fill a hat came out, it was a mess. maybe i should hose down my tree stand before i redeploy it too.

i use all PTL mounts too, also with screws to trees, or some times with a hose clamp to a t-post.

just an Fyi the APP is now available for free , search cuddeback and you should find it in the app store, android should be up shortly also , the app is very similar to what you can currently do online . They are looking for input and feedback so feel free to post ideas. Demanding HI REZ images are one thing that isnt possible right now keep that in mind. This is a work in progress and will be updated as new features go live.

one of the most basic things that i really wish these cameras did, would be to check in with time service via the cell tower. and then... pass this time setting along to all connected cameras on the network. would something like that be possible?

thats a good suggestion and ill pass it along ot see if its possible, right now just the cell needs to be accurate and the rest update.

i did pass this along and it sounds like its in the works but its pretty involved , the challenge really comes in where users would have cameras deployed close to time zones. It sounds like this is a 2022 project, likely later in the year or closer to 2023.

so your saying there is some time sync now, just from the home to remotes, but the home has to be programmed manually; it does not pick up time from cell tower?

correct , as long as the home cell unit has the time and date correct the remotes should update within 24 hours. the Time and date do need to be done manually on the home unit though. The connection from the server and cell is not in real time so that is why it currently cannot be done remotely and its not based on cell tower time like a cell phone is.

I am trying to update my firmware from 8.2.0 to 8.3.0. I must be doing something wrong. I’ve tried two different SD cards with the new firmware on the SD card. Both times my cameras have shown Check SD. Do I have to put the firmware in the DCIM folder?

unzip the file and then copy what is inside to a clean SD card and try it, that should work , some cameras dont like the zip file for some reason.

Thanks. I’ll try that.

Do I need to copy both things to the SD card. One is a text file.

Starting this thread for anyone using the Cuddelink system that needs help. Hopefully others can learn from these posts ,shorten the learning curve and simplify things. As always, i'm available via PM if you need specific help as well. Ill add to this thread the process I use for setting up my networks and others are welcome to do so as well. If you have a specific issue with cuddeback CS or myself i just ask that you start another thread or add to an existing one that isnt mine. i want to keep the posts on mine specific to those needing help. As i stated in the other thread I cleared this with Bill ahead of time earlier this fall.
Firmware won’t install in 2 of my cameras. After 7 calls to Cuddeback with no return calls, I’m hoping this forum will help. Thanks

unzip the file and copy what is inside to the sd card, make sure card is empty , this should do it.

Tried already. Fixable? Tired of sending cameras in every couple of years.

ive never had a camera i couldn't get firmware loaded , most often unzipping does it. I it woudl be very odd for you to have 2 that wont take and have something wrong with them. What version is on the cameras now? another thing to check is that your computer isnt renaming the file if you copied it to your computer more than once. You could also call Cudde and they can sell you a card with firmware on it. If you have a local dealer they also are usually good at troubleshooting and loading it as well.
