Cuddeback's Cuddelink

Ok very good. My report does say ver 7.9. I guess I'll try again on the update Saturday. Thanks for that clarification.
make sure you click on the "gen 2" tab in upper right hand corner of the website, when loading the firmware on a empty sd card.

Now paying more attention to the website, I see my error. There are two links on the website, one says update firmware, the other get gen 2 firmware. i thought they actually were the same firmware, when actually one is 7.9 and the other is the 8.3. my assumption was obviously wrong.

JOHN, Home cam went down tried everything so far not connecting to cell signal. I thought maybe updating to 8.3 would possibly help but now my link channel is a two series number... 01-16 any number 0-30 you can change. my other cams are all on the 8.0 can I even get them to link? there still 0-240

all cameras need to be on 8.2 or 8.3 to link together. the home can be on 8.3 and still connect to remotes on 8.2 but if anything is 8.1 or earlier they wont connect . make sure when setting channels that the second two numbers are 17 or higher. this will offer best performance. if you need an older version to reload for the time being PM me.

how much more per camera would you be willing to pay for this feature?

I’m lucky in the areas that I hunt (private with good neighbors). I’d pay $50/camera if it was an option someday down the road. If I still hunted some areas that I used to hunt where we had common trespassers, I’d likely pay $100 or more for the option. Catching someone with a stolen camera would be priceless!

I wish they would have described what versions are compatible a little bit better it says anything 8 and above is compatible I may need to have you send 8.1 again for whatever reason those downloads must time out because I am unable to copy my 8.1 to a card that I have downloaded On my laptop already
The two error codes I receive are either 208 or 209 when I try to run a cell test I’ve tried removing batteries resetting everything new SD card ect.

John- for sure. As the cost of Gps comes down I’m sure many users would like the option. One friend even said it would be nice to have Gps just to remember where all of the cameras are!
I would like it. I registered all my units serial numbers on the site, so I assume Cuddeback has all the numbers stored, at least for warranty purposes.
Maybe an alternative is: If someone were to snatch my cell unit, I could report it to Cuddeback as stolen, and when the next user tries to activate the unit, the request will go thru the "stolen" filter, kick the request back with a response like "sorry, this units been reported as stolen, and will not be activated. The owner is on his way to pick up his camera" lol

John- I just read that Spartan cameras now have anti-theft gps built into them incase anyone would ever steal them. I can’t believe that this has not been added to cameras before now. With the costs of these systems, it would be great if Cuddelink could add this feature. It would be better yet if it could be retrofitted back to older cameras some how. I imagine sales would be extremely high for both. I could imagine that this would eventually help curve trespassing issues and camera theft if word got out that cameras now had Gps built into them. I would love to catch someone stealing one of my cameras!
To prevent theft I screw them into trees, and put a padlock on them. I also paint them to help conceal and put them 8-10’ up the tree. The only cameras I’ve had stolen are ones that had none of the above. Although, I would really like for a password option that way if they are stolen they can’t use them and if they try to contact support, support will identify the serial number and could notify the real owner. I could think of several things I would love to see from cuddeback but price would come up and they are already priced high in my opinion. I’ve yet to find the “perfect” camera.

you will eventually want to get all of them on 8.3 or later to help make sure images come thru fast and efficiently, only load 8.1 if you are trying to get by for a short time or until he end of the season.

currently if you have a cell camera stolen you can deactivate it and when the thief would try to activate it in his name or call CS they would not do it unless you have offers permission to do so. basically the cell unit is tied to your account until you tell cuddeback to release it.

i did a quick search on amazon and there are several small gps tracking devices for under $30 available , one of the was 2" in diameter so it could probably be adapted to a camera if one wanted to. This one even had an app with notification when it moved. I would think these will continue to get smaller and more affordable and as they do Cuddeback will just allow the user to decide if they want ot add it to their cameras. I think it would have to get under a couple Dollars cot for them to consider adding those as a feature ot each camera. We sell a very low percentage of safes to camera sales , which tells us theft is not a major concern for the vast majority of users although i can see how it can be important to some.

So got my cell home camera updated and can now change settings remotely with fw 8.3. bought 2 more J model link models to start adding to hunting land network. One is apparently dead on arrival as it wont boot up....... the other i have updated and registered for warranty purposes. It is not linked to my network yet as i have it here with me and it is not out on the hunting land. At what point will it show up in Camp? is it when i actually take it to the hunting area and link it? The website is not clear on that but the wording seems to imply that once it is "registered" it would show up in my list of devices so I can "add device" . Just clicking on add device i only have an option to add another cell camera g or k model but not a J model Cuddelink.

the J has to be linked in your network for it to show up on camp. The cell connection is what allows it to be connected. a few hours after you have it on site in the network and linked up it will show on camp. Regarding the unit that wont power up. make sure you arent using energizer D cells. if so, try rayovacs. if you are using rayovac, make sure the battery selection in commands isnt set to 12 aa or 6D, if it is it will show as dead and it is set as those but has a 4 d pack in it. You may need to get 9 volts of power to it with an external pack for you to allow it to change the setting.

I indeed do have energizers in both new cams. the one never powered up at all the other booted up and seems to be fine. So energizers present some sort of issue? it is actually listed as an recommended brand. what exactly is the energizer issue? are they going to be ok in the camera that is working or will some issue develop there?

they are not consistent in size which can cause issues in some of the cuddeback d cell cameras. Changin them out to rayovac high energy will likely fix your issue and give you longer battery life.

Great info and have made a temp hack fix based on the above----I put a penny on the bottom of the negative battery just inside the battery door. booted up. I'll get some rayovac. That battery size issue is surprising.

Will the gen 2 update give me better range?

@john volkman - Hoping you could help me out....How many cameras can I have linked in total. I seem to recall I can have 24 with gen 2, but the website is saying 16...and for whatever reason, I thought I read on this forum that the number was going to be increasing from 24 to 32 (I could be wrong on that).

Thanks,

Eric

I loaded the GEN 2 firmware on 16 cameras and have not received any pictures. I set them from location 1 to 16 and channel 01-10 on all cameras. I did not do the reset like I should have. Is that my problem?
