You ignored the most important part of my post. What is going on with crispr? When is the next big break through coming. I know crazy to think a Trump guy cares about the science.
In todays political climate, only science from one side or position is a accepted. Thats the problem.
There is alot of science out there that show masks are ineffective or worse detrimental to health, but that doesnt fit narratives so its ignored. There are plenty of studies that show the effectiveness of common , cheap treatments to cure or slow the "virus", but that doesnt line fauchis pockets so that is ignored, or worse mocked.
Worst of all to me is the science of the eye test and comkon sense that SHOULD show everyone that there is nothing in this virus that makes it any more deadly than the flu. The science they claim to use and worship is flawed at every level, from testing on up and everyone knows it but most ignore it because it doesnt drive the fear factor.
It seriously makes me sad that so many in this country are affraid of getting sick, it just shows how weak we have become.

I forgot to mention, Trump giy and science is a line that deffinately will not be allowed. Trump is the devil Bobby Bouche!!

Knehrke- Thanks for trying to apply science and reason to a topic overtaken by emotion and weird politics. What I don't understand is that these same people will believe a soil test, often conducted by land grant universities (commie organizations for sure). Then they actually apply lime and fertilizer based on those tests!! Don't they know its all a conspiracy to get us to buy lime!
To be fair, I do believe the readings on a soil test, but it stops there. Government farm school is also science for hire.

I have always had respect for the presidents, regardless of party. I may not have liked the person in office, or agreed with their policies, but I had respected the president of the US. At least until I saw all the disrespect that was given to the last president from day one. Now that a democrat is in office, we hear lets unite, respect is needed, but none was given before. In my eyes US politics is broken beyond repair. Neither side wants what is best for the US, they want what is worse for the other party, what is best for their party, or what lines their pockets.

You still wont catch me bad mouthing the president of the USA, but I certainly wont be defending him. I have never been a democrat, or a republican. I have been a conservative. I like my freedoms, stop making stupid laws, that dont do anything, except take away more freedom. I like to keep the money I make, so stop taxing me for everything. Stop coming up with stupid ways to take more of our money, with "fees" surcharges, wheelage tax, etc.." Stop trying to take my guns, or tax me for having, or using them.

I was one of the people saying things will flip after the election, well they may not have flipped the way you are thinking, but the democrats sure have flipped since Biden took office. The democrats were completely against the vaccine, opening up anything in the economy, including schools, restaurants, bars, etc.. while Trump was in office, but once Trump was out of office, the vaccine was gods gift, and everyone needs it now! Schools need to be open, the problem with that is they didnt foresee how lazy and powerful the teacher unions are, bars restaurants, businesses need to reopen, etc. Then we are finding these democratic governors are to power hungry to let that happen at one time, so we get idiots like our MN governor and they make up a term like, turning the dial slowly for our safety. Slowly giving us our freedoms back. Our MN governor is a puppet to what California, New York, and Chicago does.

Hell, now the MN government has made a website, where you can add all of your personal information, so they can track, and get ahold of you when it is your turn to get the vaccine. The democrats are tripping over themselves to add all of their personal information into this site. No thank you!

Sorry for venting!

Thank you for doing so

Some good points, some not. People who die over the life expectancy age absolutely do contribute to it, and it's not just math. Kaplan-Meyer analysis. We do it all the time.

But the concept that increased deaths from non-COVID related issues might impact the curve disproportionately has some merit. I'm going to parse the data today to see how much impact deaths from varying age groups have on decreased life expectancy. Could be interesting. I will do the same for excess deaths, since that's the other metric that's commonly touted.

As for the narrative, you are preaching to the choir. I see exactly how it's changed since Biden assumed office. But I pay very little attention to the public narrative as voiced by the politicians. My opinions tend to be driven by aggregate data from (hopefully) independent sources. Now, that doesn't mean my interpretation can't be flawed, or even totally wrong. Always learning or never learning.

The Cuomo idiocy is because he is and always has been a bully. The emperor himself. He suffers from the Enron "smartest one in the room" syndrome, and he doesn't know how to back down. I'm not completely buying the right's narrative that he cost us thousands of lives...there are arguable reasons to suspect the outcomes would have been similar regardless, but that's not important to appreciate the concept that he made a mistake and he won't own it. Any good will from his initial transparency during the first wave disappeared long ago.
Yes, Cuomo is and has been nothing but a bully throughout his reign. This as you know doesn’t just apply to COVID. His policies on the nursing homes have no doubt contributed to more deaths in them. HOWEVER, the covering up and hiding of the numbers and associated data on those policies because it would make him look bad or worse yet to shield from Federal backlash is inexcusable. That’s on both the right and left. That’s lying to the people and there’s a lot of people looking to move up the ladder so they’re not letting it go anytime soon

LMFAO. Every year, I need to read up on what happened over the past year just to keep myself current. It's a rapidly moving field. I wish I had some insight to share on the market. I will mention that there's a blog that I've followed for years http://rnaitherapeutics.blogspot.com/, and I think if you look back through the posts you'll see how hit or miss investments in this area can be. Too risky for me. It seems like every time there's a clear winner, somebody sues them for infringement and the whole thing gets tied up in court.

But in terms of advancing the field, CRISPR is turning everything on its head, really opening up new possibilities for treating disease. One of the biggest remaining challenges is how to effectively deliver RNA-protein complexes to select tissues. My wife works in vision research - delivering the RNPs in eye drops is self-limiting, perhaps an area to keep in mind when considering opportunities?

Our own work in the field of genome editing involves a genetic model organism, the nematode C. elegans, which we use as a platform for basic science research in the areas of mitochondrial bioenergetics and aging. Nobody's making any money off of my work, that is for sure!

I own a few shares of EDIT. A couple of their trials address blindness. I don’t begin to understand it. I watched the Netflix documentary on crispr and as boring as it was it was still fascinating. Cancer is my hot bottom and I have invested in a few companies trying to end it. That is what landed me on crispr.

I don't know whether that is cynicism or sarcasm - but who is this "they' to whom you refer? From a purely financial standpoint, the payoff from a successful R&D hit can be unreal, but a patent is only good for ten years. And failure can sink the ship, so there's no incentive there. From a truly cynical standpoint, doctors make the same amount of money treating a disease whether the patient lives or dies. Probably more money the longer they keep the patient alive. Although I don't know a single cancer doctor who thinks like that, in aggregate, they are the most dedicated, hard-working folks out there. Most of them with broken souls from watching what they can't help...

I think they make too much money treating cancer to cure it.
I hear that argument all the time. There are so many cancers and so many companies working on cures. These companies sole existence is to find a cure for that one cancer they are working on. No cure, no pay day. They have come so far in the last ten years I think they are close on many cancers and I don’t think they will be giving the cure away for free. I will buy the conspiracy on the common cold but not cancer. Unfortunately, I have way to much experience with cancer doctors, I don’t know how they do it. To tell a mother of three young boys you have 5 years if your lucky...they want a cure. F-ck cancer

Why aren't cancer researchers/doctors required to share their findings with each other if curing cancer is such an altruistic activity?

Careful, that goes down the socialist path, but they do. My aunt had a rare breast cancer that 95% of people die in 6 months. She lived 5 years with it. She was part of many studies, with many drugs, with many different hospitals, and many doctors. She went from one clinical trial to the next. Each one bought her more time. Each trial was similar, the drug would work for awhile then The cancer would fight back. Each time there was another trial waiting for her since there were so few people that survived as long as she did. She was a coveted free agent. Each time the doctor handing her off shared what they had done with the next doctor. Not saying that money isn’t the driving factor. Someone is financing these ventures for potential profit. That is what you want and why the private sector will alway provide the solutions ahead of the government. I don’t want to think that is why the doctors are doing it. If they are and it gets us to a cure then so be it. F-ck cancer

Thats the key right there, PRIVATE SECTOR .
F cancer
F government

Yep, you remove the evil P word, profit, and we won't see a disease ever cured again or another miracle drug ever brought to market. I'm good with that. Let the innovators and inventors work.

When the profit motive is considered regarding "curing" cancer it isn't the altruistic activity oftentimes portrayed. I'm not against making money off a deadly disease, but making money off a deadly disease isn't altruistic.

It wasn’t 2 weeks to flatten the curve. Nobody said anything about the curve last March....

It was “slow the spread”....switching it to flattening the economy came with the next 30 days.

History matters!

Exactly
Just like every other liberal agenda. Baby steps and they will never question it.

Can somebody communicate to me in English what Xiden said about the corona?? I wanna know when I can sew my sleeves back onto my shirt. Just imagine what deaf people are thinking reading the closed captioning on this one. Or thinking that the sign language person is drunk trying to communicate this garbage. Vaccine must have been hard on him.
