Chaga (aka Tinder Mushroom)

I was bored and digging through the web to learn more about mushrooms in northern MN. I came across the tinder mushroom. This is crazy stuff, and apparently, I may be sitting on a gold mine in terms of this stuff considering the tree makeup on our land.

If you want to see this is action (the tinder properties of it) skip to the 6:50 mark in this video.

I hear ya. Rare? I see them all the time on birch trees. I have never tried any though. I think I might harvest a few this year.

It'd be neat to pry some off just to try them as tinder. I'm not 100% sold on woody mushroom scrapings tea, but I guess if a guy is bored enough you'll try it. I've read reports that it'll raise your energy level somewhat like caffeine, and even send ya running for the john a little like that first cup of coffee in the morning. There's more to it than that, but it's a start.

How about trying some and let me know how the tea is? LOL Now you scared me with the running to the john. Everything I read is all wild mushrooms need to be cooked. I don't know if pouring hot water over them would count. A friend at work told me about one mourning he and his buddies made eggs in the mourning with some fresh hens from the day before. They put the hens in toward the end of the scrambling, just like you would buttons from the store. Needless to say all three of them climbed out of their treestands and were running out of the woods that mourning.

Lol!
