Buying Lumber

Just keep in mind that when doing composite decking you also need the fasteners. We do alot of timbertech and azek. A bucket of hidden fasteners does 500 sq feet and costs just over 500 bucks. Sill need the screws for trims and such as well. It's a awesome system and product but is spendy

Went with regular treated lumber from Menards. Had them deliver the whole shebang, including hardware, so ordered it straight from the laptop. Here I am lounging on it.

Whoever built the previous one didn't use flashing, so the rim joist on the house was shot.

Taking the old deck apart and replacing that joist was a lot of work.

Just in case your not aware, don't use aluminum flashing on the deck. The modern chemical makeup in green treated will eat holes in aluminum flashing. We use a tape flashing and then aluminum and then another layer of the tape to protect the aluminum. They sell vinyl flashing but it seems to crack too easy

I have the flashing tape just as you describe.

Looks good!

That didn’t take long. Looks good
