Bucks to chase, Opener is in 2 days...

5 year old buck +
Does anything get you as excited as a trail cam pull? Especially, when some of the bucks that were MIA all summer start to show up.

I think I found my 6 year old that i tried to get last year. not to mention a 5 year old that we couldn't find all summer. Best part of that is, he's utilizing a narrows/trail between a staging area and a big ag bean field that I helped identify and open up. That's probably more exciting than killing it myself.

None are going to score out of this world, but there is a history with them and we've let a couple walk in the past to get to maturity. That pursuit is a lot of fun.

Dang! That field looks like mine but you got great deer in it!

And the darn things took a branch off my chestnut (which is caged - that branch is 12 ft tall, 6 where they broke it):

i was afraid I'd planted my oats too early. It was the 2nd week of august, but they're starting to use it and everything is nipped off.

If deer wanna be running around ripping branches off, they should be shot.

Nice! When is your opener?

saturday.

Not sure i'm gonna go as it's gonna be a stale South wind and 80+ degrees. Unless one of the boys is showing up... Supposed to drop down to mid 50s by tuesday or wednesday. That seems more like a recipe for success.

Looks to be about the same for the whole Midwest. Good luck!

Good plan.

Which one is a 5 year old?

Which one is a 4 year old?

If none of the above ... which doe to put meat in the freezer?

I would look at it in that order ....

Nice Roy! Great pictures bud, I rarely get videos of anything decent until the rut and even then they are mostly at night.

In pic 00097, the one entering the field has a big frame. Any other pics of him?

0097 is the same buck as 256 and 257. we watched him as a 4 year old, then last year as a 5 year old I had him at 25 yards and mis-identified him. He had a big body, but his rack wasn't very spectactular (135" 8 point) in my pictures I hadn't seen the split brow, so I let him walk. Figured out my mistake later.

He's just shown up this year. We nicknamed him Barrel because that's what he looks like. a barrel w/ 4 legs. He'd be my #1 deer I'd like to kill.

this was him last year as 5 year old. I don't think I'd be prouder to kill a booner than I would be to get him

Those are some fine bucks with tank bodies. Good luck.

Yep, When they look like hamsters it’s time.

got some rain last evening and a front blew in. Not super cold, but hopefully a 10 degree drop will get em on their feet. Headed out this afternoon.

Good luck! Hope we see a photo of a big buck in a few hours.

Yes! Congrats

Congrats Roy! Can't wait to read/hear the story. Did you get him near that trail you opened up that you referenced in Post #1?

Antlers are so tricky. I filmed my buddy shooting this deer on my farm last year. Squat for rack but he was a big old tank. 975E2E5E-F5DD-44E1-81DD-D1D8F7CB97F9.jpeg3A7EADBC-1DEA-40D1-8669-42B6F45CF755.jpeg
