Bone Dry

It’s so dry in MN I’m starting to lose trees that I planted. Second year in a row now, but this year looks much worse. Not good for crops/pasture. Gettin worse ....100 yesterday and not much rain in sight .

How dry is it in your area? I’m sure it’s wet somewhere too!

Our area of south east Minnesota received about 2” the last week in May. That is the only rain that did much of anything since September 2020.

I lost one apple tree that was planted spring of 2020 out of about 20. Not to bad.

Like you the 14 day forecast doesn’t show any rain and temps in the upper 80’s being the norm.

I have some buckwheat I’d like to plant next week but not sure it’ll do much

Man that’s a bummer. Rained 3 days last week in w ky and shows rain every day this week. Raining right now there

SW Akansas. Over 15” rain in May. Five more inches predicted this week. Cant use a piece of equipment because of the mud. Rivers flooding and boat ramps closed. We are within 12” of our total annual rainfall. Been like this for the past six years. Sick of it

I planted about 250 transplant trees that I ripped out of the road ditch this spring. I expect them to all die, and also lose half the ones I did the last two years. I have been and will continue to water the trees that I bought and planted from this year. I suspect I am going to lose some of the ones I planted last year. My crops (corn and soybeans) are really starting to look like shit 50 miles west of Minneapolis. Lots of hard work and yield potential getting flushed down the toilet. Looks like we have one hell of drought coming this season. Still have about 1,600 bushels of corn to sell. Hoping to get $10 a bushel.

May was 50% rain to the normal monthly average, last 10 day ~0.25". Temps last 4 days and next week plus upper 80's to lower 90"s.

Not a good start and I am putting in 8 acres of beans today.

AS wet a spring as I can remember . Normally we have finished all planting by first week of May. As of today we haven't started. 80% plus chance rain all week . Fields are mush. Roads are horrible. Have hardly been able to do any work on the farm since last August when Hurricane Laura blew most of the trees down then we received over 20" rain in the next 6 weeks afterwards.

That said the farm looks incredibly green

Fun speed ahead on converting the farm to regenerative ag

I hate years like that. Feast or famine most years.

Most crops down and around northern Missouri will start to get planted next week. It's been too wet otherwise.

I read a report in late winter that said to expect hotter and dryer than normal in upper Midwest.

Early spring dryer than normal but colder, last couple of weeks we have gotten a decent amount of rain. Crazy temp swings been way cooler than normal, last week a lot of nighttime temps in low 40’s.
Just now starting to warm up good, crops are finally all in, corn may be 10” tall now on the earlier planted stuff.

Hot, dry, and windy here. No change in sight in the forecast. It's way too early for this kind of heat.

Summer just sucks. I realize it’s a necessity, apples need it to grow, same with antlers but uuugggghhhh. Oh and it’s dry as hell around here.

May was dry here at the beach and at our property in western NC. The last few days in May seemed to have kicked off the typical summer thunderstorm phase. We’re averaging a few inches/week in the mountains at the moment.

Makes me want to switch to fall planting for trees!

Bone dry here.

NW Wisconsin, and rain would go around me everytime. I would watch the radar, and the storm would split over me everytime. We may have gotten a couple tenths since the beginning of May. I have been watering my apple trees 5 gallons a week. I know they should get more, but there are too many, and I dont want to spoil them.

Central IL they called for 3 days of rain last week and we got 0 after we sprayed and planted the buckwheat. They are calling for 3 days this week but nothing so far and I think today was the only day with above 50% chance.

Pretty dry here in PA. Had a few days of rain two weeks ago but now hot and humid. We do have a chance of thunderstorms about everyday this week so fingers crossed that we get something.

I planted my 400+ road spruces in August. It had been such a tremendously wet year, I went for it right away. I didn't lose any to drought. I did lose some years later to winter burn and other things, but for the most part, I've only had to replace 1 where there was a gap of more than 1 dead tree.
