Bone Dry

Well I'm sorry if I jinxed us 4WE but I got 150lbs of rye down and 80 lbs of nitrogen on my brassicas last evening. It certainly looks promising

For the most part that system missed me. I have gotten about .6” this week from the hyped up possibility of 5 inches. But there is still hope for today and tomorrow, but not holding my breath.

2.5" of rain in 24 hrs, badly needed here in NW Iowa. Still raining all day too.

We’ve had to have gotten close to 6” in the past 3 days with more on the way.

I have gotten .6” this week. Everything breaks up and goes around me.
But 6” is a bit much.

going out tonight to do a couple acres of broadcasting winter rye (some by hand some with a spreader) in the 95 degree (feels like 107 degree) heat, but there are storms around and forecast for the next couple days... I know its a bit early but the areasI am seeding are in pretty cold spots and rain looks hit or miss after the next couple days....
Spread another 150 lbs of rye in 4 plots and 80 pounds of wheat in another about an hour before a big thunderstorm hit...then came home to a good shower on some rye and wheat that I seeded last night..thanking the good Lord for the timely rain..and now the countdown to early October begins...

My submersible pump in the basement has been running for the past 12+ hours. It’s a nice sound to hear it kick in. I haven’t heard it in over a year and a half.

It tells me that our water table is finally being replenished and that our streams should start to rise and cool (after the flood water recedes)

1.5" last 3 days for us and a total of 8.2" of rain for month of August so far. Normal average for Aug is 3.8". Unusual month.

4" now in the last 48 hrs, man counting our blessings

Finished up the fall plots by broadcasting ~200 lbs of WR and 80 lbs WW on some plots at our farm on Friday night...a big storm moved through shortly thereafter..
On Sunday, spread ~100lbs of WR on the small plot below my house...
Had a small storm last night, calling for a few more today, then Ida arrives Tuesday night (calling for 2-4+ inches).
I don't really mind bumping up my seeding by a week so long as all my seeds don't end up in a ditch or creek bottom somewhere...

I seeded mine a week ago Saturday. The way things have been going I couldn't afford to miss out on the rain this past week. The winter barley is already about 2" tall.

Ida bringing upwards of 7" today and tonight. I hope it doesn't wash everything out. I'm half expecting all the wheat and rye I just planted to all be growing on the downhill side of my plots.

i second that....and all the plots i seeded last week are on pretty significant slopes....guess i can do another round this weekend if needed...luckily most of my stands are on the downhill sides of the plots too...

Not sure how much we got officially but this is a big wheelbarrow (10 cf) that was maybe 1/3 full of weeds and it's almost full of water. I think as of the evening news harrisburg was just shy of 6".

That rain helped.

Don't mind the weeds.

Hope these will be big enough time season. They're pretty late.
