Bartlett Pear

Is anyone, especially up north - planting or has Bartlett pears. I am going to put in an order for root stock and was thinking of additionally trying a bundle of 50 Bartlett pear root stocks, eventually graft out most but try and grow a handful out from the root stock. Just curios what you may think of them, both for wildlife and eating/use. When they tend to drop or how long they hang... Thanks

I have 4, planted 3 years ago, all are doing well. They were 6-7' tall bare root. Growing for wildlife, have not seen fruit yet. Have survived pretty brutal winter cold temps last few years.

Good to hear we are both 4b im a bit north of you and if yours survived last year they will make it up here as well ... I think Im just going to go for it I have not done pears before and might as well not wait any longer. Seems they are a good root stock for wi plus they will make decent fruit

Where are you getting the Bartlett pear root stocks if you don't mind me asking? I was thinking about just planting some pear rootstocks and am between Bartlett and OHxF 333.

I have a few out good DR pear and good annual producer, start dropping in early Sept a little bit of a gritty pear my wife really likes them I like keiffer better for eating myself. Deer will lay under them waiting for pears to drop (they do that with all our pears). I never see Bartletts laying on the ground everything eats them.
They are probably the most popular pear in my area, all the old homesteads have them.

willamette nursery ... i have been getting apple rootstocks from them for a few years I will add a 50 count bundle to my order. They have been really good to order from.

Everything I've read about Bartlett indicates it's a fireblight magnet.

I am in north Texas and have tried barlett pear, I don’t think it lasted one season before the blight got it. It may just be my area but I agree with previous post, very susceptible to blight.

I planted a Bartlett pear 5 years ago. The second year it had fire blight. I pruned it out and it has been fire blight free sense then. It had pears this year and they tasted incredible.
