Any tips on planting root suckers?

The American plum I planted at home are growing super fast but have not produced a good fruit crop yet. I have noticed they have been shooting up a bunch of root sprouts. I was thinking of trying to transplant some. I never tried suckers before. Advice? Also would it produce more fruit if I cut these root suckers down?

Pot them for the first year. Cut the tops back pretty well. A good dose of compost will help them grow the first year. After that a root maker and triple 10 will grow them pretty fast until you want to plant them out.

If I were to just dig them up now and transported them to a different spot would they make it? Or do you pamper them along to get the new roots growing first?

I have transplanted root suckers from my farmstead plum with about 50% success. They got very little after care.

The second part of your question.
if you prune the suckers it will grow into more of a tree. I can’t say if that would give fruit earlier.
if you don’t prune them , it turns into more of a shrub. Some people like it that way as a cover screen.

Mine all made it but they grow sloooowwwww. Pots help to get them a good root system before they are left out on their own.
