Any 25-06 fans??

Anybody out there have a 25-06?? What's everyone's thoughts on this caliber for deer - yotes??

i shoot one as my main rifle and love it! I've killed deer and yotes anywhere from 25-400 yards...i think i am shooting 115s out of it and sight it in 3 inches high at 100 yards, putting it dead on at 200...also, it's recoil doesn't hit you super hard (college football killed my shoulders) but it is definitely flat shooting.

I have a Remington Sendero, Stainless Fluted in 25-06. It's a nice gun that shoots tight groups with my handloads using a Nosler 115 grain bullet. I like the gun but have gone to a 300 Magnum with an explosive bullet for deer hunting in NWSGs. I want to ensure a major blood trail due to the grasses being so tall and thick.

I have been using a Rem 700 BDL in the 25-06 for many years now, bought in the early 70's. Has never failed me on whitetail. Took it to Alaska where it was deadly on caribou.

I have a 257 weatherby not quite the same but really close.

Any gossip on 25-06 going the way of beta-max tapes?? Not being able to get ammo??

Have owned one as well for over 30 years. Have reloaded and shot almost every conceivable powder-lead combination available. No nothing about the loss of available ammo. Love the caliber. I also have gone to larger caliber for deer. Shorter shot distances in the heavy forests. In the longer distances energy and speed (knockdown-flat trajectory) is as good as any out there. IMHO

I’ve also heard this but hopefully it’s not true.

It's perfectly suitable to both. Why do you like it so much? What is your objective? Do you need one rifle that can do both? Can you have two rifles instead?

It’s all I ever use for deer hunting and never lets me down. I’ve got the Ruger M77 Mark II in 25-06. I reload with a nosler 115 gr partition bullet as well. Shoots flat and packs a punch. If I didn’t have a 300 win mag, I’d trust my bullet combo on Elk.

My uncle hunts with one and loves It. I was considering getting one for my daughter but decided to hold off. Hard enough to find ammo for my 30 o6 so I think I will get her one of those so we can share ammo. Of coarse right now you can’t find the gun or the ammo.

I used to have a savage 10tac in 25-06. One of the most accurate guns I ever owns. I could hit a golf ball every time at 200 yards! Regret selling it.

Maybe you should sell me that SS tikka 308 since you jumped up to 300wm :emoji_wink:

I've got to keep that sweet shooting little thing for when I hunt my other place at the creek bluff property. My walk in over there is 4/10 of a mile, and the Tikka is as light as a feather. :emoji_grinning:

Of all the ammo shortages I saw a few boxes of 25-06 the other day at the store and thought...."who the $%#^ shoots that?" Funny....

I've had a 25-06 for for quite a while but just don't seem to use it much. It has taken two large whitetail bucks, but the performance wasn't that great. This was a 90 grain Barnes X bullet and I guess I expected more performance. First buck was right at last light, 200 yards, and I couldn't find him. Looked for quite a while with flashlight, but no blood trail. Went back the next morning and found him right away maybe 60 yards from the shot in the opposite direction that I thought he ran(again, no blood). The next one was a lung shot on a buck at maybe 75 yards. After the shot I got down out of the tree and found that he had ran about 100 yards after the shot and was standing looking at me. When he turned to run, put another shot in him and put him down. Honestly, I think it was the bullet that didn't perform. I'd like to try some of the heavier 115 Noslers or Hammers and I think the results would be much better. Loaded some 75 gr Vmax's for coyotes but haven't had a chance to try them out. I prefer to use suppressed rifles now and since this barrel isn't threaded it sits in the safe a lot. Honestly, I'd much rather have the 257 Weatherby for a 25 cal as it's a laser inside 400 yards.

I shoot nothing but Nosler Partitions. I've never lost a deer. They HAMMER!! My usual deer gun is a .270 that I shoot 150 gr. Partitions through. Devastating bullet.

I'm looking into a 25-06 for a bit of a lighter load for yotes as well as deer. There's no necessity to buy another rifle .............. but why not??? I've got several other calibers - I just was looking for a mid-range caliber & the ballistics seem good.

I'll take ALL input - on other calibers as well. Hunting rifles is a GOOD topic - no matter the caliber!!

I've had a Win 70 with a VariXIII 3-9 in 25-06 for a long time. Sweet gun. I carry it in good weather. My two sons have killed deer with it too.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. I'm not a Weatherby superfan, but for high-velocity rounds, I think it's the way to go. The performance is amazing. I stick to common chamberings, but if I was going to splash out for something high performance I would go with Weatherby.

Yep, I have never lost an animal shot with a Partition. Fantastic penetration, and plenty of shock without exploding and damaging a lot of meat. There's not a ton of difference between a 25-06 and a 270 Win. How about a 22 Creedmor? Same ballistics as a 22-250 Improved. I'm really wanting to try one with an 8 twist or maybe even a 7 twist. Would be awesome on coyotes and lots of people use them on deer. Definitely wouldn't be a primary gun for big bucks, but with quality bullets it would work, especially for does. Couple places are even making correctly head stamped brass.
