A few habitat pics I thought you might enjoy

Nice looking bachelor group Native, any on your target list?

Thanks Tree Spud. I think the biggest mainframe 8 will be on our target list. I’m pretty sure I recognize him, and he is at least 5. I think the others probably need another year. I will also be looking for a couple of deer I remember from last year that might show up closer to rut time.

My deer and my son's deer from last year came home today. Very happy with the work. There is supposed to be a story on my deer in Rack Magazine sometime next year, but I don't know what month.

Holy cow! Really impressive deer. Nice work.

Sweet!

still waiting On ours. I putto big of a deposit down :). Guess that puts you at the back of the line since there’s not a big paycheck at the end. ;)

Looking good ... some great bucks you have down there Native. What's you secret ...

Thanks Tree Spud. I've been looking for that magic formula for a long time, and I've come to the conclusion that trigger restraint is the biggest piece of the puzzle in my area. Next on the list is creating better cover. I do focus on food, but honestly the deer around here would do just fine without me planting anything - especially since cropping has become so much in vogue the last few years.

I have my food plots in for this year except for overseeding a clover patch with wheat and then mowing. Hopefully I will do that next week. As you can see below, my NWSG cover is coming on strong this year. The top of that shovel handle is chest high on me. This isn't very attractive to deer right now, but when the leaves fall and the temps drop, this becomes a gold mine.

Beans

I dumped 25 gallons of apples from my yard out for the deer at my 20 acres place today. No trees set over there.

Lots of beans at both places. Below is neighbor's bordering my NWSGs.

Some cute little guys - love the stocking feet on that one.

I removed a threat to them this morning.

Only two of the three big ones showed up on camera this week. They have gone nocturnal - probably due to bow hunters using 22 rifles like they normally do around here. These two are mature and on our list for this year.

Got some nice young deer too that I'm hoping make it through until next year.

My dad bleached out the deadhead I found on the creek. He did a good job.

This used to be fescue, and I turned it into a jewelweed patch. Pretty nice huh?

My NWSGs are rank this year, and these pics were before the Indian Grass bolted. I have my shooting lanes mowed.

Thanks for checking out my thread today.

I missed white socks in your earlier post.
cool little deer.

And I forgot to mention that the mother has white stocking feet too.
It’s a nice trait. It would nice if she would throw a button buck. Easy to keep tabs on.

Got a little update today. Forgot last time to post a picture of shooting lanes. Very necessary.

Thanks for checking in. Not a drought but need rain to get my new plots to come on better.

You gotta start bow hunting. Even Xbow hunting.

Yes, I know. By this time next year I will be retired or semi-retired and should have the time.

Do you plant anything in your shooting lanes? How do you get them to stop there?
