11 minute coyote fight

Native Hunter

5 year old buck +
I recently had 315 pictures over an 11 minute period of a coyote fight that occurred right in front of my camera. The first coyote was one that I had been seeing on camera since back in September. It is broken down in the back end and has very little use of its hind legs. The second coyote appeared to perfectly healthy and hell bent on killing his injured neighbor. However, he was not able to do it, and I have had more pictures of the injured yote since that time. I don't know what this coyote is surviving on, but I guarantee you it isn't catching any rabbits. A human could easily outrun it.

Wonder why? They won’t eat each other. Actually, I don’t think anything will eat them. Not even buzzards that I’ve seen.

Kendall Gray ate one... well, he tried.

I figured it might be a territorial thing but don't know.

I snared a coyote one night and there wasnt anything left of him the next day except hair all over the place. I dont know what came in there and killed him and somehow got him out of the snare - but almost all the yote’s hair was still there. We dont have any other large predators. Maybe a pack of dogs.

Hawks usssually eat the ones I kill. I hunt coyotes almost exclusively in winter, and I haul the carcasses back to a relatively open area of forest near a river. I make a few big slits in the hide to cool down the flesh and provide access. The hawks generally eat from the carcass til Spring, and then the bugs and microorganisms turn the rest into goo.

Breeding season is here. Pairs wont tolerate any other canines. Coyotes will take on dogs even larger than themselves this time of year.

I feed them to the Eagles. They can eat a coyote in a few hours.

I must have picky eagles. I dumped one in a field and nothing touched it.
But the eagles did have gut piles since it was rifle season.
