1-2 person lightweight boat suggestions wanted

Tamarack

5 year old buck +
I'm looking for something small enough and lightweight enough to just put in the back of my truck(it can stick out) and carry it to the lake or river. Something to be able to attach a trolling motor or even a mud buddy type motor to it. I like this one https://www.thewarriorboat.com/options/ but may not be able to get it here in WI. https://www.creekboats.com/ is another.

There may be shallow muddy areas I'd be going thru so something that would be good for that. Not sure a trolling motor would work unless anyone here has had luck with one. Maybe they make an electric mud version? :emoji_thinking:

My duck boat, small pond rig is a pretty simple two man version made in the pirogue style by Water Moccasin Boats outta LA. They make plenty of versions with some sort of electric motor setup but in WI you have to register that rig if any type of motor. This one I just paddle or push pole but did make a spot to mount a trolling motor if I ever want to. I picked it up from the factory when I lived down in TX.

Ya know the cajuns claim a pirogue can "float on a morning dew".

The prices aren't too bad either.
I have quite a distance to go on the lake to get to the inlet and river. Too much paddling for me. Add a little breeze and I'm dead. Speed limit is 5mph but I'll settle for 1mph.

What are you wanting to do with it fish or hunt out of it or just use it to get from a to b. I would look at a stump jumper kit for a mud motor option maybe something like EBADS from 4 rivers.
I had a 14/36 with a 9.9 go devil and that boats would go just about anywhere and when it ran out of water you could pull it to dry ground. Little bit more than a pickup truck bed.

I have swamped way to many 10/12 foot John boats to even consider going anywhere more than a stones throw away from the bank.

Mainly to get from a to b and then c and d and etc. Putting up trail cameras etc. Maybe some duck hunting as well. There's a good 50+ yard stretch of muddy shallowness between the lake and river.

Hard to beat a 12 ft flat bottom

I'd probably like something with a bit more maneuverability though. Would be paddling around the tributaries etc.

Lots of older light weight semi-V Sea Nymph style aluminum 12' row boats out there to be had that you can drop a small 9.9hp on or trolling motor that two guys could handle easy from truck to water. Canoes are also hard to beat for being very portable and easy use and can go crazy shallow.
Neither one are good for open water but are fine closer to shore or in channels and rivers/ponds.

I do plan to check Craigslist etc to see if there's anything available that would work. The ones like I linked to and others suggested aren't available anywhere near here so maybe I'll get lucky and find them there.

I bought a plastic canoe for $50 off Craigslist about 10 years ago and couldn't be happier. I think it's called Rogue River.

Canoes are great for the paddling part but to stand to push pole thru shallow water and thick grass or to sit and pass shoot at ducks not so much. The craft listed at start of thread are much more stable than a canoe but not as easy to paddle. Depends on how you want to use it. In WI you have to duck hunt from cover if near shore. You can open water hunt but has to be like 500 ft from shore. Depends on what you want to use it for. And hunting with a dog from a canoe, no thx

What I like about the Warrior and I'm sure others is you can get a pedal controlled trolling motor set-up and remote for the speed etc. I can see doing some fishing with that setup or have your hands free for photography. I'd just have to start at a bridge/road a few miles upstream to avoid the mud at the inlet to the lake unless the water level is up.

First time I've really looked into getting one and am a bit surprised some of these companies don't have some dealers besides right around where they're manufactured. Or even Cabelas or Fleet Farm etc. Some do ship but I may as well take a trip to pick it up for the price they charge.

I do both with mine without issue.

All canoes are not created equal, I've been in some that are very stable others that are the tippiest things ever invented. One of my buddies has a shorter square tail that is just a mean canoe....it will just about roll for no reason at all, I refuse to ever get in that thing again. We have one now that is pretty stable I think it is a Suzuki or something like that?

Tamarack, I get the specialty style boat need. I've hunted out of the Poke Boat and similar and those are sweet in channels and marshes.
I know that I have seen some small Barnegat Bay sneak box style boats made of fiberglass and plastic that are very stable and surprisingly open water worthy little boats that will also go through a few inches of water also.

Some directions you can shoot out of a canoe ok, but like to be able shoot 360 without worry. But really I only duck hunt with a dog, not gonna do that from a canoe so that limits canoes to fishing only for me.

In that case it's better with a Jon boat with a swivel chair mounted in the center. You can make or buy a half-submerged ramp for the dog to climb back in.

Find a Riverhawk (made in Georgia) or a Gheenoe. Based on what you’re wanting, this would be great.
