    Oats and turnips

My cousin planted oats with turnips last spring. They combined the oats and the turnips came up great after that. It was a super dry summer but with fall rains. The deer were in those fields hard. Could this be another planting method?

    Yellow Sweet Clover Screen

I had a quarter acre field in the corner of a hay field for horses that had a ten foot wide strip of sweet clover in it. Sweet clover is bad for horses. I raked that small piece then went to rake the main field. I thought, I should have checked the small piece to see if it was dry enough to...

A story of frustration, and a less than awesome solution

Our ministry banned natural deer lures, can only use artificial scents to help prevent disease but you can bait all you want. I think the tourism industry had a big play in that.

Vacation activity suggestions for Western South Dakota?

We did both jewel cave and wind cave on our 5 th anniversary. On our second trip with our daughter, jewel cave tours were booked solid but they did have a lantern tour at the original entrance. It was great, not a hollywood example of a cave but the way it was back when.

    Rotations

Radish, turnips, rape, are all in the brassica family as is kale and others. It all depends on how they are used. A pound of them per acre in a mix with other forage should be ok yearly but a planting of all brassicas yearly could spell trouble. Its best to rotate crops for soil health. Look...

Winning the battle to establish conifers

Around here you would have no luck with white pine. They are high on deer preference list and if any survived, a buck sure will rub it to death.
