    30-06 ammo for elk

My friend shot a very large cow elk last fall with an '06. He used a Winchester 180 grain power point of all things. It's what his gun liked. Bullet mushroomed perfectly after coming to rest just under the skin opposite of the entrance.

    Broadheads

I have shot both with positive results. I'm favoring the vented at this time because they come in a larger cutting diameter . 1 & 1/4" I think. While I'm at it, the other thing I like about them is that they are cheaper to shoot in the long run IMO. With a mechanical or replacement blade...

    Broadheads

Always have been & probably always will shoot a fixed 2 or 3 blade broadhead. Three blade 125 grain VPA's are my "go to" broadhead now. Well made from one piece of steel. EASY to sharpen and they hold an edge. Fly great and I usually pull the arrow out of the ground after it's passed through...

No Till drill/planter cleaning and prep for winter storage.

I use my shop vac to remove seed. Then I use an air compressor to "dust" everything as best as possible. After that I'll power wash the exterior of the unit. Once dry, I'll lubricate the chains & grease the bearings. I sore mine in my unfinished machine shed. It's under a roof but the sides...

Will this work for a dove plot?

It's hard to say. Doves prefer feeding on bare ground so you might think about lightly discing the soil after mowing.

What’s the skinny on locust trees?

Black locust - Pro's : Best firewood out there. High BTU, splits easy, & grows straight. Beautiful grain for traditional Bow. Flowers in spring are attractive to pollinators. Small seed pod & seed is beneficial to wildlife. Con's : "Weedy" tree. Can take over. Small thorns can...

How to improve river bottom ground?

Just blew up the picture. Didn't see much for canary grass. I'd still burn & disturb.

How to improve river bottom ground?

Without seeing the "big picture" it's hard to recommend what to do but you might want to develop a bedding area. My guess is that the grassy cover appears to be Reeds canary grass. With that said, if it can be done safely, drop a match & conduct a controlled burn. After that, try to drag a...

    Large land owners

Depends on the state, soil types, amount of tillable acres, marketable timber. etc. But they are seeing $$$ & probably want in excess of $6,500 .00 / acre. For what it's worth, there's 100 acres for sale near me, (central MO). The owners were asking $5,000.00/ac. 1/2 of it is cropped...

Growing thoughts: What are you worried about this season?

I've dealt with ehd die offs when I was working. Deer have always bounced back in a relatively short amount of time.

Growing thoughts: What are you worried about this season?

Hunting, food plots, deer etc, etc, are my escape from life's "worries". I can't do a darn thing about drought, ehd, cwd, & the way a state "manages it's deer herd, etc., so why worry about it? I grew up in a family of "worry-er's", Instead of trusting the Lord, they worried. Didn't do one...

    Wood duck houses

There's a company called Timber Pro Coatings out of Oregon I think. They sell a product that people put on their raised bed gardens. If a guy was going to use untreated lumber it might work. My experience with OSB plywood hasn't been that good. Biggest problem is the squirrels chewing it up.
