What to do with an oak savannah?

Sure wish I could transplant that oak flat to my place! I’d burn it this spring and see how it responds now that the cows are gone. You might eventually need to remove some trees to get it to your desired thickness. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

How Many Years Since Killing Your Last Deer?

That’s the part I don’t get. Exactly the same scenario in the County my property is in, median income is only $40k. You’d think everyone would take advantage of the plentiful resource but that’s not the case. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

How Many Years Since Killing Your Last Deer?

Interesting situation with the neighbors, funny how things can be so different in different regions or neighborhoods. I’ve been trying to convince my neighbors to shoot does and most won’t do it. We’re in a 50+ deer per square mile county. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

How Many Years Since Killing Your Last Deer?

We fortunately have a high deer density, we live off of venison for our red meat source. My nine year old son and I each killed three deer this year (6 total). Our family of five will have the freezer cleaned out by mid season 24’! I’m Just looking to shoot does or an old mature buck, my son...

Fall release broadcast before a good rain. It’s really dried out but it’s been cool. The deer have been relentless, I’ll follow up with more cereal grains this month. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Oak tree from acorns?

We usually start ours in small pots designed for this purpose with commercial seed starter mix then in ~June we up pot them to one gallon Rootmaker’s. At that point we plant them in 3-1-1 planting medium. Three parts mini pine bark nuggets, one part sand, one part peat moss. Sent from my...

    Oak tree from acorns?

You don’t have to stratify white oaks but you can refrigerate them over winter if desired. That’s what I usually do. Damp (not wet) paper towel in a ziplock then plant in early spring after your last frost or inside under lights anytime. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Farm land value over time

I’m not sure states have convinced people it’s dangerous but the media has definitely tried. I certainly understand how casual hunters that just want to put a deer in their freezer annually but aren’t really into it could walk away from their hobby. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Farm land value over time

It’s been interesting watching the value of land in many areas change from timber and agriculture driving the price to recreational driving the price. In the 90’s dirt was cheap in pine timber country and you could actually consider tree farming an investment. Most of the timber land prices in...
