    Goldfish

I have a small pond on my property. It's about 1/4 of an acre, 8 to 10 feet deep at the deepest point. The previous owners had what they called a koi pond in the back yard, a few years ago we found out what they did with the fish in the winter. We didn't think to much about it until we stopped...

    The dog spot

4wanderingeyes thread got me thinking that this site needs a place to honor and discuss our dogs. I am a huge dog guy, feel naked without one in the house. Love training em, raising em, lovin' em. So I'll start with some pics. The old girl is my Emma. She was my first hunting dog. Trained her...

    Turkey Tags

So I went on the DNR site last night to buy a left over turkey tag for this season. Everything in my zone is sold out. OK , no problem, my fault for not getting it done sooner and not sending in for one last fall. My issue started when I went to another outdoors site and read reports from guys...

    Scent lock closet?

i was reading through the bszweda story on the projects thread today. One of the things they were talking about what to do with an old refrigerator. It got me thinking, has anyone ever tried using an old fridge as a scent lock closet? Seems like it should work, should be reasonably air tight...

    Spike oats

So when I planted this fall I bought a big bag of plot spike oats. I used maybe a quarter of it for my needs as of now. I was thinking of frost seeding the rest. Ive never done this before, would I broadcast the seed now, just before a good snow, or in early spring before all the snow is...

    Multiple scrapes

I took a walk this morning to check on progress of a couple kill plots I put in this year. 1 of them is 25 yards in front of my box blind, in the middle of this plot stands 1 probably 10 year old box elder thats "bushed" out, meaning its got dozens of main leads. Around this tree and are 5...

    Saving Apple trees

I planted 6 Apple trees last year. Noticed today that rodents or rabbits got at 3 of them. Chewed the trunks all or most of the way around and about 6 to 12 inches up. Question is can I save them? Wrap them with something? Pretty sure I already know the answer, but thought I'd ask anyway!

    First try at cuttings

Planted my first cuttings today. Tried willow , mullberry, and basswood. I would think the willow and mullberry would take off, not sure on the basswood though. We will see. Tried a bunch of different spots and soil types. Would be cool if it works !

    Front yard pond

Are there any natural ways to aerate a pond? I have about an 1/8th of an acre pond in the yard. I was going to scrape it back some this year to about 1 foot deep and add gravel and sand to help filter and increase area for good bacteria to grow. I'm told this will help keep it clean. Currently...
