    Chestnuts finally!

Finally got to my farm in western wi and am excited to see we finally got some our chestnuts to produce some nuts. Probably a total of 20 nuts across 4 different trees so not too crazy but wasn’t really sure if it would happen in this zone and it’s been around 10 years I’d say all in all.

72” rows to make space for fall seeding

Just wanted to share what I’ve been doing for a couple years. We double the corn rate and have 2 corn plates and 2 bean plates on the planter. This gives acceptable rates for the corn and beans and allows for a good amount of light and space to overseed rye and brassica for the fall, to kind...

    Shrub willow

I don’t see this mentioned much but wanted to relay my experience with it. I tried some of these about 5 years ago and they are really coming on good. They are bred for fast growth for biomass and supposedly get 15-20’ in 3 years but don’t turn into a tree. A couple things I like: they are...

    Seeding switchgrass now?

Looking for opinions on seeding switchgrass now, the areas I am looking at are pure dirt, so no weed worries at the moment, I just haven’t heard of seeding this time of year, just fall and spring. Do you think it would work ok? Or wait til fall?

Best course of action to get a fall plot into this?

I am thinking this would be too tall to try throw and mow, this is along a trout stream and is probably 4-6' tall weeds and grass. What do you think my best course of action would be to get a fall plot in here? I could probably get access to a mower/sprayer etc, this is se mn if that matters.

A plot I put sucraseed sweet spot in seems to have regenerated high sugar ryegrass. It looks to be seeding out, I assume this needs to be kept mowed to be attractive but wanted to see if anyone had experience.

    Crimson clover question

We are in Wisconsin, and broadcast some crimson clover into some of our corn in the fall. Some took then but we have a nice carpet of it growing now in the spring. Should be expect this to reseed by fall? I haven't used it too much and am not sure what to expect in this situation.
