    Sad survivor

I had one just like that several years ago. He just disappeared in early fall and then showed back up in January on a corn pile survey, He looked horrible. Was missing the same portion of leg on same leg and really scarred up. My guess he got hit by a vehicle. He survived and actually thrived...

    Best Midwest bedding/Cover possible?

My dad and I planted 1650 tree and shrubs in a day, starting within an hour of sunrise and ending at just after sunset, using a tree planter behind my tractor. He drove, I planted.

    Best Midwest bedding/Cover possible?

When I did my cp33 project, the plan allowed for an alalfa/clover plot around the 3 acres so I would be able to burn the NWSG and pollinator when it management time, perhaps this might work for you.

    Best Midwest bedding/Cover possible?

I did something similar to this about 3 years ago. It was through a general crp sigh up practice. I'll see if I can find out what the practice is and get back to this thread. It was cp33 that williams111 already pointed out. I am late to the party, like normal.

what shrubs are very attractive for deer browse.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions. I greatly appreciate it. I planted a bunch of plum, red osier dogwood, choke cherry, and hazelnut in a 3 acre tree/shrub planting 2.75 years ago on a farm about 5 miles from this farm. They are surviving but not thriving yet. The soil is good but semi...

what shrubs are very attractive for deer browse.

Thanks 11 and Seeds, Dogwoods are a definite possibility. I have loads of grey dogwoods on the property. I wondered about silky. I experimented with red osier and it would qualify as candy as they ate it to death, I have a relatively high deer density The strawberry bush intrigues me. I will...

what shrubs are very attractive for deer browse.

I'm renewing my continuous crp and with the practice I'm doing, I will get to plant 4 rows of shrubs. I think elderberry and wild plum are bombproof but does anyone have a shrub that they would tout as deer candy in a shrub? (This is in southeast NE) Thanks for pondering and especially if you...

How Many Years Since Killing Your Last Deer?

Southeast NE, Fawn recruitment based on observation from sits this year is close to one per adult doe. In the previous few years it was between .25 to .50 dawns per adult deer.

How Many Years Since Killing Your Last Deer?

I average a buck every three years. I target 4.5 or older bucks. Does would be on the target list if our numbers could support it. If the trend continues from this year's fawn recruitment, I may be able to do that in a season or two. Overall, at least one buck meeting the age criteria has been...

    Water hole/tank and freezing temps

I would think the warmer air from 6' down would rise, warming the water, the warm water would rise and the cold water sink, the warm air would cool and then sink, keeping a continuous cycle of warmer air and water moving. I'm going to test this theory this next year.

Pears, If you were to pick just 3?

I'm in zone 5b. Kieffer is first choice, trophy pears, and asian pears. These all seem to handle late frosts very well. The asian pears are my favorite pear to eat and I the varieties I have ripen in late August, Sept, and Oct. I have some varieties I planted in 20' that I got from Turkey...

Like in Trading Places, "buy, buy, buy, buy" They aren't making anymore land next to you, you can always build a shed and add on if so desired.

    No cam hunting

Same here Hoyt, He had to get a smart phone and learn how to navigate it to be able to view them. :) He hit 80 this year and never had a job where he used a keyboard, icons, etc. It's been quite the learning curve for him.

    No cam hunting

Trail cams extend the enjoyment of my land, considerably more than just hunting. I have perhaps become a bit OCD with them but they have helped with deer # surveys, survivor bucks post season, incredible would never see otherwise nature pics, deer management in forms of age structure and bully...

    waterholes

I posted this on another forum that is having the same conversation right now. I have tanks all over my farm even though I have two dams that hold water. Mine are all dug into drainage routes and fill up easily when we get an inch of rain. However last year and this year mother nature kept them...

Deer Blind ... Pre-made Wall Panels & Roof for Assembly Onsite in Difficult to Access locations

The booner blinds also could work using this same pully method. They are alright considering their price, especially if one can get the menards clearance price and 11 percent rebate. Caulk and spray foam are a must for these blinds to make air tight. The windows area adequete but i've cut out...

Deer Blind ... Pre-made Wall Panels & Roof for Assembly Onsite in Difficult to Access locations

I've used a four wheeler with winch and pulley system to lift 12' towers with maverick stands attached. I like the maverick stands only after I installed larger windows as the cheap, flimsy windows they come with are way to small to have uninterrupted viewing. I've cut in 42" vertical rope...

Blind Hid'em thoughts or better yet success stories

Depending where you are located in the growing seasons of the country, hybrid willows, kanlow switchgrass, miscanthus, and cedars could all be used. I have used hybrid willows to screen/blend blinds in within two years, miscanthus within 3, and cedars after 5. This is se NE, heavy clay, 25 to...
