    Standing corn for deer

Well, I mowed and seemingly overnight the plot is on fire. Good times. 8 bucks and 1 doe fawn the next night. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Standing corn for deer

It’s legal to more corn in Illinois. I mowed a bit of it. Hoping that does the trick. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Maybe I’ll mow lanes in the standing corn then. People rave about mowed corn. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Standing corn for deer

Wondering people’s experiences leaving standing corn to hunt over? The deer at my farm are literally going around a 1.5a plot and seemingly just would prefer to find cobs in the field that was harvested and not chiseled. I've never had standing corn, just didn't know how normal that was. I guess...

    What is yourfavorite persimmon?

Wondering myself. All I know is that they need to be American. I’m told the Asian varieties do not drop “on schedule” as it relates to deer hunting. I’m wanting to order some, trying to find a nursery. May go to Stark brothers who have grafted females. But boy are they expensive. Prok American...

    '21 Shed Thread

I actually think they were different deer! Sheds will be falling off a bit early this year since so much of the US had such a brutal cold snap. Stress is what does it, and so much snow cover and cold will definitely stress them. Get out and look for sheds - I bet they’re dropping like flies now...

    Switch grass too thick?

I don’t know if glyphosate or any herbicide will really do that well in the spring. I plan on burning it first and there will be a tremendous flush of growth. I would think it would at least set it back. So I might mow and spray it multiple times. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Switch grass too thick?

Yes. I tilled strips in it last year and it did nothing. Came back just like I never really did. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Switch grass too thick?

Anyone have any sure fire way of controlling switch grass in the spring? I’m going to create diversity pockets in my 4 acre monoculture of switchgrass. I’m guessing herbicide will have limited results since there’s such a flush of top growth after I burn. I’m also reading that mowing it...

Shed dog - deliver to hand?

I’ve got an eight-year-old yellow lab. She’s a great dog in so many ways. Been working a bit with her on shed hunting, she can easily find sheds by scent and grab them but will not deliver to hand. I don’t really want to force fetch her per se, mainly because I’m not confident in myself I know...

    Switch grass too thick?

I plan on burning it all, and then waiting till it greens up and then spraying herbicide. I don’t have a plow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I did that last year with my tiller. Didn’t do anything really. Many times was timing. Am going to do gly or cleth I think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Switch grass too thick?

Don’t remember the seed rate unfortunately. But I would go less rather than more based on this experience. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Switch grass too thick?

They don’t move through it as much as other bedding areas on my farm I’ve done two prescribed fires now. We do backfires at the top of the hill. And holy moly it is hot. You can’t get within 30 feet. A head fire would be scary! The last one we did, there is an area about the size of a swimming...
