Do radishes typically start growing again in the spring?

    Sometimes I'll mow the tops of radishes about this time of yr to stop them from going to seed. They are all in full flower right now. Quite beautiful. Not unusual to re seed and start growing again in the summer. They get a big growth spurt early spring around here. { La.}

    Vetch/Alyce clover mix specs?

I only use vetch and Alyce together. 10lbs each per acre. They compliment each other perfectly and with a little maintenance will reseed for several years. Sometimes I go straight vetch [ doing about 5 acres this yr ] 20 lbs acre. One of my favorite plants!

Flew a thermal drone at my place today.

My interest in drones spawns from what I can learn. Like most I have preconceived notions about where the deer should be, how they relate to the habitat, when they are where and why, and a host of other ideas. I do some controlled burns each yr. Be interesting to see what the deer are doing...

Flew a thermal drone at my place today.

One of the most fun things I've ever done with whitetails is helicopter game surveys. What a hoot. In the brush country you can see everything. There are stories from the past of folks using helicopters on big ranches to shoot bucks. Way more effective than a drone. Always a way to cheat the...

    High fence deer farm review

One of my favorite things is guiding folks that ' get it' when they see a fully functioning top end deer herd. Most of my inner circle of hunters rarely shoot anything[ including myself] Delighted just to be a witness. Couple of options to prime time....neither of which includes sitting in a...

Dealing with Stumps on large properties

In the " for what it's worth " category. After we finished treating the stumps as I show in the above video We ran over the entire area with a disc, broadcast sorghum and grazed it twice. Then this fall I broadcast oats, elbon rye, red clover and arrow leaf clover which is all up doing well. I...

Dealing with Stumps on large properties

I used one of these last summer and it worked terrific. I'm going to buy one. I posted a video showing it working...creating a savannah...I followed it up with a grinder but in hind site I don't think it was necessary. Ive also used a tiger cat muncher. Expensive but effective. For men problem...

    2023 deer season regrets…

I have a big regret. . I found a buck I wanted my nephews young son to shoot. Put them in a blind fairly confident they would be successful. I went elsewhere. What I regret till today is I didn't go to the blind with them capturing their hunt on video. It was a magic memory excitement beyond the...

How Many Years Since Killing Your Last Deer?

Been 4 years since I shot a buck mostly cause I have more fun hunting with a video camera. Had one last year that upon further review was a good target. I passed him up thinking he was a 6 year old around 196-198. Having found one of his sheds this year turns out he was somewhere between...

Are the glory days of deer hunting coming to a close?

In the beginning my neighbor and I put a fence around the totality of our property. Subsequently, some years later, he started a commercial hunting operation on his property. What we had learned is how much bucks travel. So to be fair , as I had far more plots and feeders than him, we then built...

Are the glory days of deer hunting coming to a close?

My neighbor and I owning a total of 2500 acres had been aggressively managing our property for maybe 25+ years. Not shooting young bucks. Food plots everywhere. Supplemental feeding for 15+ years. During that time took ONE buck that was 170. We built a fence around the totality of our property...

Latest MSU Deer Lab Study on Buck Movement

I've said this al along. Bucks move a lot more than most people think Most folks are better off focusing on creating quality habitat ...whatever best suits your area...than focusing on deer mgt. One thing I would be curious about regarding the study is how big an area they conducted the...

Thoughts on culling bucks with poor genetic potential.

What I try to do is show potential. No question my circumstance is unique. By pushing the boundaries on age and nutrition I'm curious to see what happens and perhaps dispel myths . Specifically on my farm I have a feeder per 60 acres feeding from February thru August. That on top of about 130...
