    Labeling fruit trees

Impress-o-tag metal labels from Amazon for on the tree identity. I also have a google Map layer created with every apple tree I have with pins and then the name/rootstock. This is key to have for when tags become lost or unreadable for whatever reason. I’ve had deer chew on these soft aluminum...

To graft or not to graft, that is the question…

Impossible you don’t have enough room! Try harder and find more room! I’m voting with chicken little and buy 50 more rootstock and go to town! I think bench grafting is easier than limb grafting myself.

    2014 Grafting Adventures of CrazyED

For your fruit fridge, how are you storing them in there? In bags? Loose? Do you introduce humidity somehow? I’ll need an entire apple fridge for next year so starting my research now.

Anyone have any trees on G.890 rootstock?

Yes but only 1. I had to have a Zestar and Cummins only had it in this rootstock when I ordered. Planted in 2018, been producing apples since 2021. Fast grower, earlier producer compared to B118 or MM111.

    Spraying around trees

If they are caged, you could go to the extreme of wrapping tarps around them to prevent chemical getting on them. Otherwise, yeah just be careful and pick a day with 0 wind.

    Chestnut crab, liberty, enterprise, winecrisp?

Zone 4B and chestnut crab and Liberty have been rock solid. Enterprise has been 50/50 for me dealing with cold and surviving.

    Voles worse than bears?

I can sadly relate. I lost 7-8 trees due to Voles this last winter. I got lazy this past fall and didn’t re-secure my window screens properly nor have I painted them with white paint in 2 years now. Also in Wisconsin and I’ve lost a couple trees to voles in the last 6 years but never more than...
